Derrick Rose Poses For a Pic With Local McDonald's All-Americans
Longtime TUP'ers know I have a secret affection for Chicago high school hoops, so naturally this photo opp of D. Rose with local ballers Anthony Davis (center) and Wayne Blackshear (right) is simply too good to pass up. It's also more proof that inner-city Chicago kids really like to wear puffy vests.
It wasn't long ago that Rose was running Vincennes St. and winning back-to-back state titles at Simeon. For we much as we adore him from afar, Rose is considered a God-like idol in the minds of any CPS student on a varsity hoops team around the city. By all accounts, Rose grew up in a father-less low-income family from one of Chicago's most crime-ridden neighborhoods. He's the beaming token of hope and optimism for so many kids in this city. When you think about what Derrick Rose really means to Chicago, that contribution is impossible to discount.
Rose played in the McDonald's All-American Game in 2007. This year, it'll be played at the United Center. In the picture above, he's posing with the city's two most highly regarded high school players, plus Branden Dawson (left), a Michigan State recruit who's arguably the best player in Indiana.
