Y'all saw Bobby's photo essay over the weekend. Here's mine. You'll be pleased to find that my pictures are just as stupid. * I left the south 'burbs for the parade around 8:45. This, I think, was about the fourth time I've woken up before 9:00 a.m. since I graduated high school. That was five years ago. Of all the things art school has going for it (several things), "no classes before noon" probably ranks in the three. ANYWAYS: the car ride. My bro-dog Oral (real last name) came prepared with the ultimate breakfast of champions: a bag of Fritos, a Slim Jim, and raspberry Mike's Hard Lemonade. The streets were always flooded with white people when we got there. We still got a pretty decent spot though, right on the corner of Michigan and Randolph. This guy was standing next to me for a while.  Weak sauce. This guy was also standing next to me for awhile.  Haha. Remember when everyone was pissed that the 'Hawks let Martin Havlat go so they could sign Marian Hossa? That was fun. My favorite person in the entire crowd, though, was a woman standing about 10 feet in front of me. These were her socks.  Important. Then there was a lot of waiting. We waited for about an hour and half before anything happened, I think. I was really bummed they weren't selling beer. I get the downsides of that, of course, and knew the city would never do it in a million years, but really, what's the difference between what we witnessed on Friday and something like Gagapalooza? Not much, I'd argue. Finally, the buses came. My buddy Dan decided climb the street light. "I'm gonna need a little up though, because I just put on 40 lbs." he said. We helped him up.  Party. He was on top of that thing for no more than a minute before an undercover female cop came over and yelled at him. "Get your fat ass off of there right now!" Haha. So good. Probably the highlight of my day, next to "Cubs Socks". My pictures of the actual parade is mostly pretty crappy. I blame my limited experience operating cameras for my badness. Here's a totally out of focus Patrick Kane shot.  Here's a marginally competent Byfuglien shot.  So many squeezers. And here's a shot of the senior citizen bus.  Luv u, old white people. Then it was time for the rally. Only it wasn't: it so packed and so hot outside that we had to bail. I did snap this picture before we gave up, though.  How adorable. My only regret is that I missed Versteeg's sick freestyle rap. Maybe next year? |
