Just when you think someone at Hallas Hall has finally grown a brain:
The Bears have all but said their farewells to Alex Brown, and by doing so, they have all but eliminated the potential for any trade involving him.
Would someone explain to Angelo that no team would bother parting with a second or third round pick bartering for a player that is about to be cut, as the Bears have intimated they will do with Brown if they are unable to trade him.
All any team has to do is express interest in a trade, and then sit back and do nothing. After he's cut, Brown's agent will then know who the serious suitors are.
Another thing: I'm not really sure how it all works, but I believe that the Bears have already absorbed the biggest part of the cap liability for Brown's contract, aside from whatever roster bonus and salary he is due this season. If I'm correct, his salary would only count against the cap for those games that he was actually on the team and paid by the Bears. In other words; even if he's not part of their long term plans, it would make more sense for the Bears to hang on to this extremely talented player in the event that another team develops a pressing need for his services as the season wears on. Attrition can be a powerful motivator, and the likelihood of DE going down early in the season somewhere in the NFL is pretty high. Brown's value to such a team at that point in time would be equally high.
Where did these people learn how to negotiate? Have they never heard the word "leverage"?
