Weekend roundup, Bulls-Wiz Previewby Bobby Stompy on February 22 at 12:11PM
Helluva sports weekend. ![]() If you missed the USA-Canada hockey game last night (hooray, MSNBC), you missed one of the best games of 2010... ...and we've had the Super Bowl and NFC Title in this year, too. It's pretty easy to pinpoint what made this game so great. It was a mix between underdog upsets favorite on home soil in a hostile environment, outscoring Canada 5-3 despite a painfully large shot differential (Canada: 45, USA: 23), goalie Ryan Miller stepping up in a big way with 42 saves, surviving Canada's late-game blitzkrieg, and Kesler's game-sealing empty netter. Does it still count as "pinpointing" if it's five things? This game was so good that, even if you know the outcome, watching a rebroadcast of it would be totally worth it. It's also important to remember that Canada's not out of it yet. If they plug in Roberto Luongo at goalie -- which basically has to happen to prevent nationwide rioting -- they could still be in position to run the table and medal. It's likely going to be an incredible tournament. * * * The Bulls also went on a bit of a rampage (by their standards), taking out some crappy teams with help from their new acquisitions. First it was a road win over the Wolves on Friday, then a huge home blowout on the second end of a back-to-back over Philly on Saturday. The Philly win stands out more because the Bulls set their "points scored in a game" record this season (122). Another stat people are talking about: the Bulls set a franchise record with just four turnovers. That sounds impressive, but when you really think about it, it's absolutely stunning. I mean, this team had Michael Jordan play for it. And Scottie Pippen. Like, some of the best ever. The White Sox are out of the Damon sweepstakes. Damon got 8 mil. It would have been nice to have had him, or Thome, or... Jermaine Dye? Anyone? Anyone?! Also, Chuck Garfien wrote this. It's got some interesting Peavy and Buehrle quotes. And that's about where we're at. * * * Tonight, Tonight...The Bulls take on the Wiz at 6 p.m. tonight on Comcast. They're going for their fifth win a row. Seriously. This might ruin everything, but keep an eye on Hakim Warrick. He's had some pretty decent lines since joining the team. |

that game was ridiculously intense. The last two minutes scared the crap out of me. Also, weird rooting against Blackhawk players. Anyway, eff Canada.
Hack em Warrick. And boom goes the dynamite...
