The Bulls Are Fighting Joakim Noah's Plantar Fasciitis in New and Exciting Ways

You may remember plantar fasciitis as the injury that derailed Carlos Quentin's 2009. You may know it because seemingly half of the NBA has been diagnosed with the foot injury this season, including Bulls bigs Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson.

Taj has been able to play through it, Noah recently decided he can't. The injury has kept Noah out the last two games, and the Bulls have said they plan on keeping him on the bench through the All-Star break.

One problem: the All-Star break doesn't last six weeks, and that's approximately how much rest it takes to cure plantar fasciitis.

If the Bulls are without Noah for six weeks, it's no secret that they're going to be in big trouble. That's why they're turning to a radical form of treatment.

From today's Sun-Times....

Noah revealed Saturday that he had a procedure in which blood was taken from his arm and injected into the foot.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy -- used in plastic surgery since the 1990s -- has gotten more popular among athletes, getting a push when Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward credited the treatment with getting him on the field in time for last year's Super Bowl, said Martin Leland, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at the University of Chicago Medical Center who is not working with the Bulls.

Taking blood from the arm and injecting it into the foot...

Does this sound kind of insane? Obviously. But contrary to popular belief, I'm not actually a podiatrist, so I guess we should let the foot doctors do their thing. But please, docs: get Noah back quickly. This team can't be functionally average unless it's firing on all cylinders.

To the best of my knowledge, plantar fasciitis is a chronic condition, and there really is no long term cure.

The obvious solution would be to have all the players use wheel chairs or roller skates during the game. No more of that jumping up and down shit.

That is trizzle. You can never truly "heal" (pun!) it, but you can make it feel better. Like not intense pain, better.

Since I doubt there'll be a football thread anytime in the near future:

I was reading a column by Neil Hayes about how critically important the hiring of mike Martz will be to the Bears, and the whole thing makes me want to puke.

I wish someone would pull back the curtain and expose these "Wizards" for the frauds that they are.

This stuff isn't magic, and it sure as hell isn't as complicated as the teams and the media make it out to be. It's a simple game, played by a bunch of overgrown children, and coached by people who believe that their input is far more important than it really is.

Truth be told, although I've never played so much as a down, I could probably draw up offensive game plans that would have more success than the ones Martz diagrammed in the sand during the 2007 Lion's 3-13 season. Mike should be on his knees thanking the Gods that they went 0-16 the following year without him, because it is only by this dismal comparison that his record looks better than the abject failure that it actually was.

It's time the media stop acting as though these guys are a bunch of rocket scientists working on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. If the functional illiterates they're in charge of coaching are able to digest and implement these supposedly complex schemes, how hard can it really be?

"Ok Jay ... You take the ball from Olin, and when these three receivers are out there running around, try to hit one of them before you get sacked."

Again; although I've never played the game, what are the odds that my record as offensive coordinator could possibly be any worse than the 3-29 posted by the '07 & '08 Detroit teams? And they paid coaches millions of dollars for that?

Gimmie a break.

On the bright side:

Do you think if Noah has to sit for awhile, and the Bulls start sucking more than usual, the front office cunts will trade Hinrich and Salmons for expiring contracts? Ya know, like they should have done yesterday.

They already turned down Hinrich to the Celtics for expirings....I agree that they should trade him, but the organization loves Kirk too much to do it.

If John Paxson's butt love for Hinrich gets in the way of the opportunity to improve the team over the off-season, he needs to go.

I had PF a year ago. It took MONTHS before my foot felt halfway normal again. A year later I still have some minor trouble. It's not just pain, it's stiffness too. I can't imagine Noah will be able to play at all for the entire rest of the season.

Do you know what is that Plantar Fasciitis Joakim Noah has?
