Derrick Rose: Injured.

This is officially my "Oh shit, something bad happened" video. It came down to this and a picture of a cat ruining a game of Jenga. Gotta go with Vader in that situation.

It happened in the first quarter: Rose split the Magic double-team, went hard to rim, threw up a shot and got hammered by Dwight Howard. The shot fell, but so did Rose, landing hard on his hip.

In and of itself, the highlight was really amazing. It may even be one of the 10 best plays of Rose's career thus far -- I spent a solid 45 seconds coming up with more impressive highlights in my head and could only think of seven. Of course, Rose got hurt, so I guess that ruins everything.

The irony of this, of course, is that everyone has been saying that Rose needs to get to the foul line more often. As Matt from Blog-a-Bull noted on Twitter, this is the price of free throws attempts.

So now the question becomes: a) how bad is this injury, and b) will Rose still be able to play in the All-Star Game?

The initial reports don't sound terrible, but we won't know for sure until the results of the MRI come back.

Sez the Tribune:

...(the) initial X-rays were negative. Athletic trainer Fred Tedeschi said the team still hasn't ruled out a fracture completely but that it looks unlikely.

Neither Tedeschi nor coach Vinny Del Negro would speculate on Rose's status for this weekend's All-Star festivities. Rose is scheduled to defend his Skills Challenge title Saturday night and participate in his first All-Star Game on Sunday.

"I've seen these contusions go both ways," Tedeschi said. "If there isn't much inflammation, we can be optimistic. If there are things going on in the MRI, we'll deal with them."

Added Del Negro: "I saw him at halftime and he was just real sore. I hope he's able to participate (in the All-Star Game) because he deserves it."

I saw the play while I was at work and said how bummed I'd be if Rose wasn't able to go in the All-Star Game. My boss thought that was a stupid concern, and said the ASG is meaningless. I said he was meaningless, gave him a Stone Cold Stunner, and walked out the door.

That's pretty much what happened.

But the real reason why it would suck if Rose missed Sunday's game? Because he's really, really excited for it. Just ask KC Johnson.

1) I was always more partial to this one (http://vaderloveschristmas.ytmnd.com/). It's a bit more seasonal.

2) I've seen the injury play seven or eight times, and I never noticed the bucket went in.

3) I'm pretty undecided on Dwight Howard's stupid "he ran into the man of steel" quote. Are we allowed to be mad at that? Or is it potentially funny, only I'm too upset about the injury to realize it?
