D-Day For Derrick Rose: Kevin Durant Says Rose Should Be An All-Star, But Will He Make the Cut?

The reserves for the NBA All-Star Game will be announced later today. You already know that no Bulls player has been an All-Star since MJ in 1998. You already know that Derrick Rose - caught in the midst of the best month of his career - has a shot at ending the streak. Will he make it?

ESPN Chicago's Nick Friedell asked Kevin Durant - mouthpiece for the Young NBA - if thinks Rose deserves to be in Dallas.

"Yeah," he said without any hesitation. "Without a doubt. Without a doubt. I've been saying that since a couple weeks ago. At 30 games [into the season] I thought he should be an All-Star. We'll see. I hope he is. Derrick is a good friend of mine. Hopefully he gets that nod."

"He's so quick and fast and strong," Durant said. "[He] gets to the rim easy. It's just basic. He doesn't do anything flashy. Him and Russell [Westbrook] are the most athletic point guards in the league ... He plays bigger than what he is right now. There's a lot of words I can use to describe that guy's game. He's phenomenal."

Durantula has spoken.

And if you're wondering, yeah, this is important to Rose.

"It would mean a lot," he said. "Just to be on that team would mean a lot to me. That was goal this year to try and be on it. And that's why I'm trying to make a push for it now."

"It would be unbelievable," he said. "I don't think it would ever get old. I would want to play in [the All-Star Game] all the years I play in the NBA. I hope I don't get spoiled by it."

Now, to be a Debbie Downer: I don't think it's going to happen for Rose. I think Rajon Rondo is going to get the backup point guard spot. This is all Allen Iverson's fault.

The starting backcourt in the East should be D-Wade and Joe Johnson. Then, the backup guards would be easy: Rondo and Rose. But Iverson and all those who love him (guilty) screwed everything up by voting him in over Johnson.

It's might cost Rose. It's not a definite, though. Rose-Rondo earns the 2000 Presidential Election Memorial Award for being too-close-to-call right now.

Rose gets points for playing a more pivotal role on his team. Rondo gets points because he plays on the superior team. Rose gets points for scoring way more. Rondo gets points for averaging way more assists. Rose gets points for stringing together a bunch of great games lately that are sure to fresh in everyone's mind. Rondo gets points for being a better defensive player and a more efficient scorer.

Like I said, it's close. Here's hoping Rose's recent surge gives him the edge.

UPDATE: Yahoo! has the leaked rosters and is reporting Rose made it. $$$.
