Blog-a-Bull Gives Its State of the Union Address

Untitle2d.jpgAnd no, this won't interrupt your precious 'Lost' premier, either.

I feel like Matt's Bulls opinions are often polarizing - mad love for Gordon and Tyrus, extreme hate for VDN, Taj, and especially the higher ups - but it's hard to argue much with what he wrote today. Here's a snippet:

I simply do not feel invested in wins and losses this season. We've had some stretches indicative of a future 'surge' to .500, and others where that turnaround seems unlikely. The Bulls may not even need to get to .500 to make the playoffs in the East, and they'll never be bad enough to tank for lottery balls, or fire their coach midseason. A low seed and first-round playoff exit (or barely missing out of the playoffs) seems so inevitable. I don't even feel much good for the important pieces (Rose and Noah) improving, since this won't be their team or their coach for much longer. I want to see that group start to grow, not this one play out a string.
The "why do we even watch these games" question later on in the post is especially interesting, though mostly only because every possible answer seems borderline depressing. I'd probably go with "Because I like the NBA and like the Bulls!", but even that feels like a cop out.

Really, this organization is so broken it's embarrassing. From their refusal to pay the luxury tax despite two decades of record to profit, to botched trade after botched trade, to the constant yearning for Doug Collins (no, no, no), to not letting John Paxson quit last year when he wanted to, it seems like the Bulls can't do anything right unless a 1.9 percent miracle lands in their lap. I said it the second after they won the lotto and I'll say it again: this organization doesn't deserve Derrick Rose. He's too good for them.

It starts all the way at the top, of course, with Reinsdorf, Paxson, and GM Gar Foreman. Foreman, in particular, seems completely in over his head. Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski may have put it best two weeks ago.

No one does the indignant denial like Forman: From trade talks to coaching searches with a coach still on the job, his reputation has become the executive few trust, whose words and assurances ring hollow when confronted with his clandestine operations. Few will tell you they ever feel Forman has been straight with them, and finally, sources say the coaching staff has started to feel the same way.

The funny thing is that despite such massive dysfunction, the entire situation can be rescued so easily. It only takes Wade or Bosh to make this team a real contender in the East, and the Bulls have the cap space to get it done this offseason.

Do I think it'll happen? Not really. The Bulls screw up everything, why wouldn't they screw up this. Maybe Carlos Boozer or Joe Johnson end up in town, but then we're probably right back to where we were at during the second half of the 2008-2009 season.

This organization is in desperate need of a restart or a savior. Sound familiar?

I like Matt whoever he is! Excellent piece Ricky. Rose is too good for Chicago and he better get out of here fast if they come back with Carlos Boozer.
