The headline:
From Rick-T to T-Rick...
LINDA COHN, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE.
The aforementioned advice is pretty great, too.
1. Fix the goddamn toilets.
3. Tell your baseball guys there is only one directive: Get rid of players who don't know how or want to win. Clowns like Carlos Zambrano suck your lifeblood.
a) 'Goddamn' is my new favorite modifier. For example, if someone asked me where I went camping earlier this summer, I would obviously respond "the goddamn Smokey Mountains". I've probably said that 100 times already, but I just saw Inglorious Basterds and BP repeats the exact phrase in the movie. I think that pretty much insures I'll be saying it the rest of my life.
b) Local columnist's advice to new Cubs owner: 'part with your best players!' Now that's something I can rally behind.
I absolutely hate C-Zam - not Favre-level hate, but he's got to be the most unbearable Cub - but I mean, come on, he's pretty good. Zambrano has been gettin' killed by Cubs fans and the local media lately, but he's still got a 3.35 ERA, a 1.3 WHIP, and is striking out more than seven guys per nine innings. Not bad for a down year.
Zambrano has never had an ERA over four. He's a three-time All-Star. He has been in the top five of Cy Young voting twice. Last year he pitched 188 innings, and it was the first time since 2002 he didn't crack 200. He's 28.
Ok, I've said way too many nice things about Carlos Zambrano. Yo T-Rick, cut that bum loose!
I just with they'd get a new stadium (read: a real stadium).
Did you just refer to Brad Pitt as "BP"? I think this is a new low on your long crooked quest to straighthood.
PS I come closer to killing myself every time those video ads start up....Probably a win-win for TUP though.
I hate that fucking video.
This actually isn't a down year for Z. Depending on how you look at it, it's either more of the same in relation to the last 2-3 years (WHIP, SO/BB) or a bit of a return to form (ERA, ERA+). The fact is, Zambrano has a lot of miles on his arm, the effect of which is that he probably can't be considered an elite pitcher. However, he's still a very good pitcher, probably the best that the Cubs have, and I am so fucking sick of Chicago writers lobbying for the Cubs to get rid of him. Jesus, if he hurt his toe jumping over a railing, they'd be questioning his dedication to the game and all that bullshit.
