Cubs-Sox I kicks off tonight, so before things get really heated, let's be lighthearted... if only for a moment  If you've been at the Cell this season for any of Gordon Beckham's at-bats, you've probably noticed he's not walking the plate with Metallica, Nickelback, or Kanye blasting over the PA. No, he comes out to this.Yes, the Georgian wonder-kid with Jay Cutler/John Parker Wilson/Ricky Rubio hair comes out to "Your Love" by The Outfield. Like most people, I simply assumed this was some sort of rookie hazing thing, but CSN's Chuck Garfien says au contraire... So when I heard Beckham walking out to "Your Love" again and again and again to start his major league career, I figured the Sox veterans were just embarrassing their rookie to no end.It's easy to make fun of this, but, honestly, I'd prefer it to Toby Keith or whatever country music fits the Southern stereotype I have of him. It's refreshing to see someone not so uptight and willing to fit into a mold of what they think they're supposed to be or what they'e supposed to like. Then again, I'm probably reading too much into this. Chuckster thinks it's a good thing: As we're learning about Beckham, he's a little different--in a good way. He clearly doesn't care what anybody thinks about him, especially his musical tastes. In fact, he definitely has some Pierzynski in him, which I like. Both of them have already been going at each other in a friendly way in the clubhouse.Maybe it's all just an elaborate joke. Maybe he is being hazed and as part of the hazing, the veterans are forcing him to enthusiastically say he likes the song when he actually doesn't. Maybe? Ah, whatever... Outfield! Go Sox |

If you did some research, you would know Beckham had this intro song at UGA for 3 years. Not only does he love The Outfield, but UGA fans refused to let him change it. With Beckham at the plate, fans went crazy singing & having fun at the ballpark. Proved to be successful as he led the NCAA in HRs last year. Take a look around the Cell next time, Sox fans are already chiming in. Cheesy? Come on, at least its refreshing instead of some dead beat rap song. Glad to see this guy be his own person for a change.
Certainly not hazing, because they used to play the song at his games at the University of Georgia.

This song and Gordon Beckham are linked. Get used to it. When it is played in any bar in downtown Athens his name can be heard around the bar, still a year after he last took off the Georgia red and black. When he hit a HR in his last at bat at UGA the students on the hill played "Your Love" for the rest of the game. This is just his thing, and we all know not to mess with baseball voodoo.
OK, I totally LOVE the Outfield, and Gordon Beckham is totally the BOMB! I think he's got a GREAT chance to win Rookie. Gordon's a GREAT player. He goes out there every night during the season and gives it his all. And he's so SEXY! WHOO-HOO! After every text message, I put "Mrs. Gordon Beckham." He's so SWEET too!
