Ben Gordon to the Pistons?by Ricky O'Donnell on June 17 at 12:19PM
Let's get this out of the way before the game starts... News of morning or fraud? Sam Smith says Ben Gordon has a promise from the Pistons that would pay him $11 million annually. Some are calling BS on this - free agency doesn't officially start until July 1, a few days after the draft - but I think it could be legit. The Pistons have $23 million of cap space thanks to the Chauncey Billups-Iverson swap that everyone had a field day bashing. Well this is their reward. It makes sense that they would want two impact guys, and there just aren't that many in this free agent class. Take a look at the list of names. For the teams that have cap space (Detroit, Charlotte, and not many others I think), Gordon is obviously going to be a hot commodity. Everyone is always looking for shooters and Gordon is one of the best in the league. At 26, he should just start to be entering his prime. So I don't know. During my 10 minutes of research I couldn't find how far under the luxury tax the Bulls are, so if someone can find it and post a link in the comments, that'd be great. We know JR won't pay the tax unless the Bulls have a chance at a title. I think that means, if this report is true, that Gordon is gone. And I'm ok with that. I think. I don't know. This is one situation I definitely wouldn't want to be in if I were GM'ing the Bulls. It sucks to lose Gordon to your biggest rival for nothing, but $11 million is a couple million more dollars a year than the Bulls have been offering in the past couple offseasons. * Also of interest: Yesterday's Cubs-Sox game looks like it could be made up September 3. Even though these teams are underwhelming now, I expect both to be in contention all season because of how poor their divisions are. So, bascially, Cubs-Sox could mean something. How great would that be? |

Last I checked sam smith was kind of an idiot when he 'worked' for a newspaper before leaving to get his cush job working for bulls.com.
He's as reliable as Vescey and just about as nice.
Does it make sense that any team, let alone the pistons would GIVE ben gordon 11 million a year?
