Tuesday roundup

The power in my apartment is set to be shut down for four hours soon, so lets make this quick...

A nice little Monday for me yesterday. I woke up to the Sox game, and caught the entire Bulls game. Writing a sports blog is so much easier when you actually get to watch sports.

Bulls!

"Where's Derrick Rose? Give it to Derrick Rose!"

- Stacy Stacey King

Judging by how phenomenal Rose was last night, I'm sure everyone (including me) was thinking what King said out loud when Ben Gordon got the ball on the Bulls' final possession with the game tied at 88. It kind of perfectly sums up Gordon's career as a Bull, though: I can't tell you how many times he has taken a big shot that makes me cringe, but he usually finds a way to drain it.

I've certainly been critical of Gordon in the past - and I'll need to do a long post on his future once this season ends - but man is he a dynamic offensive player. And he got murdered on that final bucket. Should have been an and-1.

The game couldn't have ended any better, either. 'Sheed is about as despicable as they come - I'll never understand why my bro Scott Phillips likes him so much - so to see him brick that last second three was great.

Finally: Rose. Words cannot describe how good he is already, and how much better he's going to get. I think we're looking at a future top-ten player in this league. I don't know if there's anything better in Chicago sports than when Rose is in transition and goes for one of those body-contorting, jackknife layups. It'd be nice if he could get a call on those every once in a while, though.

Sox

We'd add an exclamation mark on that title too, if not for Gavin Floyd's seven walks. A few thoughts from yesterday's win over the Tigers:

- So much for lingering effects of last season's wrist injury draining Q!'s power, huh? That's three home runs already, and he just missed one Sunday. May no one ever doubt Q! again. Dude's a poor man's Pujols.

- Josh Fields has been spectacular so far. He has hit the ball hard all season, but perhaps even more impressive has been his defense. I've seen him make at least three or four great defensive plays already this season. We knew he'd at least be able to hit like a league-average third baseman, but who knew he'd be able to defend like one, too.

- Though I hate Dewayne Wise because he sucks, it's not like he sucks because he's not trying. He just sucks because he sucks. There's a reason the dude is 31 and is finally getting his first real chance on a big league club. It's because he's a borderline awful baseball player. But I thought it was pretty lame the fans were so quick to boo him this season, and I couldn't be happier for him to make that huge potentially game-saving diving catch yesterday. I really think fans should only boo their own guys when they aren't trying, and trying has never been Wise's problem. He'll likely be gone for few weeks now though, which means we'll some hot Jerry Owens action. Getcha popcorn ready.

- To those who have voiced their displeasure with Chris Getz already, please stop. The dude had seven career at-bats coming into this season. There is no way he should be hitting atop the order right now. Problem is the Sox just don't have any better candidates. It might take a while, but Getz is going to be fine. He and Alexei should be the double play combo for a long time. Come June 2010, I think we see Becks at third, Q! in right, Fields in left.

- Congrats to Pauli Paulie and JD on their 300th.

I did an interview with MVN yesterday on the Bears. I'll put up a link as soon as it goes up.

Update!

I can't get over this. Apparently the Packers really want me to hate them more than the Twins.

Update 2

Alright, so lets start a new game here at TUP. Each day I'm going to give you guys two Sporacle quizzes, one sports, one non-sports. Today you get:

Sports: Original 'NBA Jam' players
Non-sports: 100 Greatest Movie Characters according to Empire Online

If you aren't familiar with this site already, get ready to waste tons and tons of time.

I disappointed myself on the NBA Jam quiz. I missed tons of obvious ones, and only finished with 23. I'm not much of a movie guy, so I did the non-sports quiz with my cop-kicking roommate, and we still only scored 48. Scores go below in the comments. You have to spell everything correctly, so have another tab opened. And don't cheat, cause then what's the point of doing this in the first place.

Couldn't agree more on the booing, Rose layups, and Fields stuff. That was a great post, but I feel bad because I also have negative criticism.

- Sheed rules

- Stac(e)y King

- Pauli(e)

- And couldn't we just call Pujols the rich man's Q!?

I agree with you whole heatedly on the last one, and begrudgingly on the middle two.

Wholeheartedly is really one word? Come on!

And is it wrong I want Pods called up for a few games because I think it will be funny?

Rasheed Wallace is the most successful stoner since Bob Marley, he is a legend. He makes me want to be better.

32 on the NBA Jam quiz.

58 on the other. I gave up with 6 minutes to go.

I would like to invite you to join my group in facebook in battling the cheaters in pub quizzes using their phones. It's a little unfair that if you've got the money to own one, that you can cheat and receive all the glory of winning your local pub quiz.

Let's get united to Stop Pub Quiz Rascals
