It appears we have a nice little Saturday in front of us

by Ricky O'Donnell on April 17 at 3:27PM

MOUTHPIECE'S (what's with the caps?) Eamonn Brennan beat me to it, but it's worth reinforcing. Tomorrow is going to be an epic day in Chicago sports.

We've got the Game 1 for the Bulls and C's at 11:30, Sox and Rays at 6, and 'Hawks at 8. Factor in the immaculate weather - and should stay that way until about when the 'Hawks get underway - and it's shaping up to be quite the Saturday. The Cubs and Cards will even bridge the day-night festivities, if you're into that kind of stuff. For me, I don't have work, and this will probably the last weekend before things get super busy with finals and whatnot. So I plan on partying all day. Why not? I have to milk these precious few days of college, you know?

Bill Simmons has some Billy Owens rookie cards to sell to John Salmons

From today's Sun-Times:

''I'll believe it when I see it,'' Bulls forward John Salmons said. ''I'm not buying it.''
Garnett's injury is not only the story of the series, but the story of the playoffs. I liked Simmons' take on the situation, but it's curious that the words "Chicago" and "Bulls" never appeared in the entire column.

I haven't seen anyone pick the Bulls yet, and I'm not going to be the first. I don't think they will beat the Celtics. But that doesn't mean they don't have a fighting chance. As I mentioned yesterday, if you look at all the playoff matchups across the NBA, I think the Bulls may be the league's best hope for a first round upset. Matt said on BDL that these Bulls are as good as any team in the East outside the top three, and I tend to agree. But the Celtics are just on another plain.

People have brought up the fact that the last time the Bulls won a playoff series it was against the reigning champs, when they knocked off the Heat in 2007.  I think the 2007 Heat and the 2009 Celtics are different animals, though. That team had nothing besides for Wade and Shaq, and both were clearly hurt (particularly Wade) throughout that series.

They also seemed to be satisfied with the position they were in: Shaq won his title without Kobe, Wade knew he still had a lot of good years left in front of him and he just couldn't win another one with that supporting cast.

The Celtics, on the other hand, will not roll over. If the Bulls are going to beat them its because without Garnett, the Bulls are a better team.

I'll say the Bulls take two. Remember that the last two seasons have each given us one great first round series. Maybe the Bulls can make it three in a row.

I just want to know how many e-mails Roman got complaining about the Sky not being listed. Two? Three, maybe? It goes back to the old Simmons joke: would you rather have the Chicago Sky win the WNBA title, or randomly find $10 in your coat pocket? I mean, it's a no-brainer.

Finally, if I'm getting this right...

The Browns want a second round pick, a fifth round pick, and Steve Smith from the Giants for Braylon Edwards.

Bears! Go a second, fourth and Earl Bennett!

You can listen to today's podcast of the Waddle & Silvy show for Simmons' thoughts on Bulls/C's. Also, I doubt the Braylon trade works, cuse Cutler wants to play with Bennett and have a Vandy reunion.

Is Matthew Barnaby retarded or something? Man does he suck.

Wow, this has been one impressive game of basketball. Stupid foul by Noah, bailed out when Pierce missed the second free throw.

You won't hear me bashing Rose again, he's a stud.

Noah maybe, maybe got all ball on that. It was pretty close.

True team win: Gordon was sick in the fourth, Tyrus hit three J's in OT, Noah was a monster (besides for the aforementioned foul), and Rose was unreal on offense. Ridiculous game. 1-1 so far for Chicago.

Got this off of Rose's player page on ESPN. It's his 2009 outlook, last updated on August 25, 2008.

"2009 Season Outlook
No matter which way you slice it, Rose is being set up to be a big disappointment in his rookie season. With talent like his, people are going to expect the world. Remember, rookie point guards tend to have a tough time adjusting to the NBA, and although Rose has the speed and athleticism to make it work, he will likely struggle out of the gate. Rose figures to earn around 30 minutes per game in his rookie season, where he’ll show glimpses of brilliance, but the growing pains will show up in the form of inconsistency. A realistic and reachable projection would be 12-13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.1 steals per game."

Fuck you ESPN.

Screw second and fourth. Second, third and fourth. What a combo that would be.

Braylon for sure.

The thing that gets me (and I did notice that, too) about the Sky logo -- and this is irrelevant whether you like or dislike the NBA -- is that there was always room for the logo in the first place. So if you're going to have a team page, and there's already space for the logo, why not just do it? Whatever.

That Bulls game was whoa.

White Sox fans & Cubs haters:
