Let's just get one thing straight, something most of you should already realize: this will not work. Funny, sure. I'd even go so far to call it 'cute'. But Scott Podsednik will not cure all that ails the Sox' center field and leadoff problems. He was a bad defensive center fielder during his White Sox-prime; I can't imagine he is any better now (he is probably much worse). His OBP - the most important thing for a leadoff man - has always been far too dependent on batting average. That won't change at age 33. I doubt he'll hit anywhere close to .280, which is probably what would be required to make him even a serviceable leadoff candidate. The speed he gave the Sox in 2005 is probably all but gone, as well.
But if ScottyPods does make it to the majors this season - and he's only a Jerry Owens groin pull away - it would be very cool to be at his first game back, just to give him one last standing ovation. Hey, it worked wonders for Crede on Friday. Maybe Sox fans just harness that much power.
Something hilarious in all this, though: how the hell does Scott Podsednik find another job before The Big Hurt? That has to be some kind of joke, right?
