Friday Roundup

The two top quotes of yesterday:

1. Tyrus after the Bulls' 14-point beatdown of the '6ers last night:

"We're the most dangerous team going into the playoffs in the Eastern Conference right now," Thomas said after the Bulls won their sixth straight at home and 13th of the last 14 at the United Center. "I wouldn't say anyone is counting us out, but we're the underdog right now. I think we're going to come out and shock a lot of people."

That's ma' boi. Plus, you gotta love when someone makes Brian eat crow. From a game last year:

...the best game of Tyrus Thomas's life (and I don't mean his life up to this point, I mean this was the best game he will ever play in his entire life, no matter how long he lives).

Well, Ty-Rise led the Bulls last night with 24, so suck it, Bri. And doin' it by going 14-of-14 from the line? Wonderful. Getting to the foul line is like the basketball equivalent of taking a walk, so, obviously, my heart is warmed. I'm not going to pretend like I saw the game last night (night class then work, all while I'm sicker than a dog. Ugh), but that box score sure is juicy.

2. Kanye after South Park owned him (still haven't seen this yet, either):

I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO ... I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM.
I can read that a million times and not get sick of it.

*
I don't know how the rest of you are feeling after the Sox dropped two of three to the Royals, but I'm actually encouraged. You know this offense is going to hit - there's no question about that - and it's good to see all three of the top starters dominate like they did.

Now things get a little more interesting: a) Joe Crede returns tonight with the hated Twins, and b) Contreras and Colon pitch the next two games. I'll be there again tonight, cheering when Crede comes up for the first time.

Finally, from Joe Cowley's Twitter, responding to the quick boos to Dewayne Wise:

Carlos Quentin now 0-for-5 - where are the boos for him?

Oh man. So much wrong here. And you wonder why people hate that guy.

*
Jay Cutler.

UPDATE

A few more links:

- It's probably not a secret that I haven't been following the Hawks too closely this season - I secretly suspect Stompy counts how many days/weeks/months I go without so much as a mention to the city's best team (that we "cover", at least) - but congrats are in order after the Hawks clinched a playoff spot and hit the 100 point mark. It seems like the Hawks are peaking at the right time (7-2-1 in their last 10). They got home ice all sewn up for their first round series against Calgary.

- ESPN's George Johnson (don't worry, I have no idea who he is either) makes the case for Duncan Keith - who recently came in at No. 9 in my top ten list of Chicago athletes 25 and younger - as the Hawks' MVP:

Naturally, the Gold Dust Twins, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, get most of the love for the renaissance in the City of Big Shoulders, and Martin Havlat has quietly put in a memorable season, but the nod here goes to the largely unheralded blueliner. Forty-two points, a plus-32 and team-high 25:30 a night. And he's only 25. Team Canada 2010 GM Steve Yzerman, take note.

- Marc Columbo: Metal band frontman.

- The two best tracks from the new Death Cab EP, in my opinion.

- The Killers' super lame cover of that one awesome Bright Eyes song

Laughed out loud at that last one.

I was reading your post and then the name of Jay Cutler just popped into my head. I wonder why...

You think Crede deserves the video tribute they're giving to him before the game?

And you forgot that Gordon Beckham has the Bama' Bangs.

What!? Come on Olsen, Beckham is the second picture in that post. And yes, Crede deserves whatever the Sox do for him tonight, IMO.

Rick- Best joke ever....

Bobby Knight, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was
showing him around. They came to a modest little house, a faded Indiana
University flag in the window. “This house if yours for eternity Bob,” said
God. “This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here.”
Bob felt special indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch,
he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3 story mansion
with a bright Green and White sidewalk, a 50 foot tall flag pole flying an
enormous Mighigan State flag, and in every window, a Spartan logo. In the
front yard was a sign that said “Welcome to the Izzone.” Bob looked at God
and said, “God, I’m not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I won
three national championships, more Big Ten titles than I can remember and I am
the winningest coach in IU basketball history.” God said, “so what do you want
to know, Bob?’ “Well, why does Tom Izzo get a better house than me?” God
chuckled, and said “Bob, that’s not Tom’s. It’s mine.”

Splooge-a-palooza!
