March Madness Open Thread (Friday), Plus A Quick Story

Not much has changed since yesterday except Michigan owned, Illinois got owned, and a handful of somewhat cool moments happened here and there.

So yesterday, I was watching the Michigan/Clemson game at a Buffalo Wind Wings at a table of about seven or eight with some friends. We were sitting in the dining area. The entire game, these really loud people from the bar area were cheering the most minor accomplishments from Clemson (or is it 'CLIMPSON'?). It didn't bother me too much as Michigan had a sizable lead throughout the second half, but when Climpson made their comeback toward the end of the game, the loud idiots were really starting to get to me.

At some point in the last two minutes, Michigan was down by (I think) one point, and Manny Harris had this dramatic take where he made a layup and got fouled. Without thinking, I instinctively shot up out of my chair, turned toward the bar area at no one particular and screamed "AND 1, MOTHER FUCKERS!"

Much to my dismay, I sat down to see my friends at the table looking totally uncomfortable. Swept up in the social situation at my table (casual drinking/watching sports), I totally forgot we weren't in a 21+ bar -- we were in a "family" restaurant. I tried to kind of keep my head down, but they told me the tables behind us and to the right of us were loaded with offended parents and their children. Needless to say, I felt like an asshole. I mean, who swears in front of kids?! I tried to make myself feel better by apologizing to my friends and justifying it by saying I was yelling "towards the bar." It really didn't matter.

I guess the tourney brings out the best in people.

The dance shall continue. And Rickhouse has to find a new team to pull for, so that could be fun, too.
