Go to Top Ten

by Ricky O'Donnell on March 11 at 3:28AM

Go read my new list on TTCS, top ten positions the Bears need to target in the draft. It even includes a Javon Ringer shout-out, just for Pete and Beau.

There, you'll find a video of my guy Hakeem Nick's most famous catch, one that will live in Meineke Car Care Bowl lore forever. If you've got 3:43 minutes to spare, though, check out this full highlight tape.

Dude's legit, I think.

The latest NFLDC mock has Nicks going 11 spots after the Bears at No. 29. He's projected to be the fifth receiver taken. Nick is either two or three on my list (I can't decide how I feel about Jeremy Maclin). I just think he's really good and just what the Bears need.  The Bears are supposedly high on Maryland's Darrius Heyward-Bey (who Wright has the Bears taking in his mock), which wouldn't be bad, I guess. He reminds me of Berrian.

The NFL Draft, just 45 days away! Don't worry, there won't be too much draft talk here this time around because a) I barely watched any college football this year due to work, b) this class is weak sauce, and c) Jerry Angelo's total inability to choose skill position players in the first round has made me sort of apathetic. Instead I'll probably just write more about Gordon Beckham.

*
Worth mentioning, I think:

a) From TUP fav Peter King:

The Eagles and Giants, two receiver-needy teams, are in position to deal for Anquan Boldin, who I continue to say will not be a Cardinal by July.

Bears! Come on! Just to be safe, I'm not even going to get my hopes up.

b) This Jay Cutler situation keeps getting more bizarre. I think most people knew he was sort of a bitch before, but it's only getting worse now. Is there anyway he can really make the Broncos trade him? Probably not, but if you're the Bears, you got to offer your first, second, and third round pick, right?

Rick, I hate to dick you on your math, but the 29th pick would be 11 after the Bears, not nine.

Also, if NYG gets Boldin, maybe the Bears can take Plax off their hands. He may be an idiot, but he can run and catch better than any WR on the Bears right now.

Ah, thanks for catching that. I'm just glad I filled my quota of one to three typos/mistakes per post.

Trade the first-round pick for Cutler, the second and third picks for Boldin, sign Plax, and not only are they the most potent offense in the NFC North, but still find themselves $15 million under the cap. Angelo won't even contemplate making one of those deals however.

I don't want to get extreme here, but why would the Bears not just give Denver their entire draft for Jay Cutler? Seriously. Is he fat and not likable? Yes, yes.

But he would gives the Bears a good QB for the first time ever. I'm beginning to think we'll go our entire lifetimes without ever seeing a competent QB under center.

Seriously. 1st and 2nd rounder seems steep, but I bet a lot of people wouldn't be too upset. From there, you're just giving up the always 50/50 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks. And let's not de-emphasize the later rounds of the draft (I'd drink Tom Brady's bathwater), but in general, they're throwaway picks. Would this insane idea potentially hinder the Bears from tying up loose ends on the roster and improving the team overall? Yeah, most likely. But I just want to watch good football. That starts with the QB position. From there, whatever.

So yeah: entire 2008 draft for Jay Cutler. Call me unreasonable.

Yeah like I said I'd be willing to go 1, 2, and 3. At that point, what's a 4 and a 5?

Oh my God what the fuck is up with this new facebook? Was I the only one who didn't know this was coming? It's way too much for me to handle.

It doesn't seem too different?

So, if I make an appearance tomorrow night at the rape room you guys call your apartment, what can I expect?

Ha it really isn't that different I guess. I just went on this afternoon, saw it changed and prematurely freaked out.

I don't really know what to expect from this party tomorrow night Dave. It does have one thing going for it: Oral is in a different time zone. So that's nice. I have a lifetime record of 3 for 4 with partys but this one could definitely go either way.
