Maybe it's because they need the extra help more than most teams (and certainly more than the other Chicago teams, outside of the Hawks, I guess), but I've always really enjoyed the White Sox's marketing department. "The Kids Can Play" is an all-time classic slogan, and even the 'grinder rules' were kind of fun before they became a punchline. And, obviously, you can't beat half price tickets or dollar hot dogs once a week. Could you imagine the cash cow Cubbies ever pulling something like that?
I guess now we can expect the Sox to promote Obama. Kenny Williams has already invited him to throw out the first pitch of the season, and now the Sox have
launched a new site pushing Obama's fandom.
What positive effects can this have? If Obama keeps wearing that old, dirty Sox hat (and why would he stop now?), it would seem like the Sox could be in line for a big uptick in coolness.
From the Trib:"Before Obama, the cool thing about being a White Sox fan is that we
weren't cool. We were the anti-cool. But now, he's so cool, some of us
don't know how to deal with his coolness."
Added coolness could mean added....profit? That they can spend on players and stadium renovations? Who knows. But after seeing the
kind of money Bobby Jenks came away with yesterday in arbitration, maybe the only way the Sox are going to be able to afford the double-digit arbitration salary he seems ticketed for next year is through an increase in revenue. If it comes from Obama, even cooler.

Sorry Mike and Beau, after finding
this site via
Sportspros(e), I just couldn't help myself:
Haha nice picture. I may not agree with Obama's stance on certain policies, but the fact that he's a White Sox fan earns him major respect.
respect rickau, but this is war now
Not really a fan of Obama, but I do love how people are applauding him for wanting to give out more stimulus "packages" when they were all over Bush for doing the same.
Change is in the air!!
Also, Stepbrothers is an instant classic!!
Serious? You realize Bush gave away $350 billion unmarked bills to large corporations, without oversight over the last quarter, right? Let Obama take the other $350 billion, put it where it should go (Main Street) and let's see what happens.
If you are going to comment on political actions on a sports blog, can you please properly cite a credible source to back-up your statement? Thank you, I don't want to start a war I just don't want to take a guy commenting on a sports blogs' word for it like a lot of Americans might do. I am just curious what went down.
Cobra, I was mainly talking about the checks that both were/are handing out to us. Instead of the word package, I should have said checks! My bad.
Beau, if people are taking anyone's comments as gospel, they should get checked out!
I'm not going to get into an ethical argument, and I understand as a reader you have to decide for yourself what is truth. But since he knows and made it apparent to everyone, don't I have the right to ask?
Of course you do!
I submitted it but since there are links there has to be approval by TUP. I would have done it the first time but I figured you were asking The GM for sources since mine is pretty much common knowledge
