Not to pile on Javy or anything -- actually, yeah,
to pile on Javy --
ESPN's Elias had this interesting stat following Vazquez's awesome outing in Minnesota...
Javier Vazquez took the loss for the White Sox Tuesday night and is now 12-15. Over
the last 25 seasons only three American League pitchers lost 15-or-more
games for a team that finished in first place: Bud Black for Kansas
City in 1985 (10-15), Mike Moore for Oakland in 1990 (13-15) and Carlos Silva for Minnesota in 2006 (11-15).
I know we know that wins and losses are kind of overrated stats (
especially wins), but to be blunt, that's not good. It's not good company. Ozzie issued a challenge, and Javy failed to meet it. Though, to be fair, it's not like he ever had the run support while he was in there.
Two more chances, two more chances...
Clutch probably doesn't exist in hitting, but I think it totally exists in pitching. That was one of the least clutch White Sox performances in a long time.
I think clutch exists only in extreme cases (Ortiz). I don't know, I'm really not that mad at Javy... probably just because of his funny response to Guillen's call-out. I guess I just had extremely low expectations, and you could say Javy 'achieved' them. Whatever.
We've gotta take this one tonight. On paper, we should win both. In dome? Another story.
I hate baseball.
'Hate' you say? You'll dig my next post...
