The Bears: screw everyone, we are awesomeby Ricky O'Donnell on September 8 at 3:50AM
What a difference one game makes, huh? Remember how awful the Bears looked in the preseason? I think everyone- well, everyone but Kevin and Condor- thought this was going to be a really long year. Now, after just one game, I’m fairly positive the positive the Bears are back. Is that too quick of a judgment to make after just one game? Possibly, but the Bears answered all the questions that dogged them during training camp. The defense was flat out ferocious, as it should be. We never saw a performance out of them that good all last season, probably because of injuries. Everyone was healthy today, and it showed. The Bears’ defensive line dominated, Urlacher and Briggs were running around making tackles all over the place, and Tillman and Vasher did fine in limiting the Colts high powered offense. As for the offense, the formula was simple: run Forte on first and second down, give Orton a chance to convert on third down. It worked today because Forte was phenomenal, the much maligned offensive line stepped up big time. Really, I couldn’t be more satisfied with the win. The Bears went into Indy, as the Colts opened a new stadium, and crushed them. It was one of the most convincing defeats the Colts have suffered at home in years. Some may think this sounds crazy, but the Bears may be the team to beat now in the NFC North. Next week against a highly beatable Carolina team should go a long way in telling us if this team is for real, and I think they are. *** What a wonderful weekend series by the Sox. Two out of three seemed incomprehensible without Qperman against arguably the strongest team in the majors, but they got it done. Beachwood will be up on Tuesday, As for the epic Tom Brady injury, which you may hear and read about on tv and internet today, I have to say I'm pissed, though I'm sure not as much as Stompy. A) Brady is my fantasy QB, and I reached to take him #5 overall, b) I picked the Pats to go all the way. |

Adding injury to injury, Brady is also my fantasy QB -- in a hundred dollar league.
Also, great post on the Burrs, but explain this: "Next week against a highly beatable Carolina team..."
I get that with Smith being out, they're weaker, but 'highly beatable'? I didn't see the game yesterday, but did they not beat the Chargers?
I swear I heard you the other night at work say that the Bears had an ice cubes chance in hell of being good this season. O.K., maybe it wasn't that, but something along those lines. One game and you're jumping onto a band wagon or what Hot Rod? And yes, I understand that it takes more than one W for there to actually be a band wagon. Just sayin'.
Stompy-
I guess you're right, I just think of the Panthers as one of the NFC's bottom feeders. If the Bears can own the Colts, they should be able to beat Carolina.
Fred-
They answered all their big questions in that game. I'm definitely on the bandwagon right now.
Congratulations. In typical Bears fashion, a driven defense forced a team to pay for its mistakes. The fumble for a touchdown, the miserable 4th and 3 with a quarter left and a two score game no matter what way you look at it, and that horrible sack to safety. That is your difference. The defense just went out there and had their way with the Colts. I thought that patched up line would be better, but they were totally outplayed by the Bears line. I know its just one game, but what a way for the Bears to make a statement and what a way for the Colts to look exposed.
I am still numb from the loss! I can't believe how good the Bears looked and how poor the Colts looked.
I definitely underestimated Forte, but he looks like a great pick for them. Hell, I underestimated the whole team. Good win, maybe we will meet again in the playoffs!?!
