Here's the deal: I have class until 6:30. For whatever reason, this game starts at 6:35, not 7:11. I'll start the live blog as soon as I get home, though it may be a few minutes after first pitch, it depends when we get let out. Make sure you're here, and invite friends.
A few extra notes after the jump...
|
- Yesterday's huge rain delay meant I missed the last few innings of the game...including Alexei's salami. I left for class right after Wise scored to tie it up. I can't imagine how crazy it must of been to watch that.
- I know this is a sorry and unoriginal comparison to make but whatever: Was anyone else thinking Rocky III beach scene during the Alexei-Konerko embrace at home plate?
- How do we feel about the "blackout" the Sox are doing tomorrow? I thought it was incredibly lame when the Heat did a "white out" against the Bulls in the playoffs, but I usually think it's cool when college teams like Penn State do it. I'm fairly positive a Chicago team has never tried anything like that before, so for now I guess I'm behind it.
- Easy TZ's NBA Top 50 is nearing its dramatic conclusion, and the backlash continues to be hilarious. I think Ziller is doing a fine job for the most part. My biggest complaints so far, in reverse order: Chauncey Billups is nowhere near the 15th best player in the NBA, T-Mac (even with a bum shoulder) should be higher than 29, and Joe Johnson is absolutely one of the league's 50 best players. You may remember I did the same thing last year, and I'll do it again in about a month.
- As Paulie noted in yesterday's comments, White Chocolate called it a career yesterday. He was never the same after he left Sacramento, and those are the days remembered in this sweet vid Ziller found earlier this week.
- It's been kind of down year for follow up albums from my favorite bands. The Hold Steady's new album is good, but nothing near Seperation Sunday or Boys and Girls in America. Same goes for the new Okkervil River cd, the Stand Ins: it's alright, but it's only got eight songs, and none of them are as good as most of Black Sheep Boy or The Stages Names. I haven't checked out the new Cold War Kids album yet, if anyone has, let me know if I should.

"Urban Illinois is so out of touch with college football sometimes."
You say it like that's a bad thing.
really torn about who to root for.
im wearing bright orange hunting gear, though.
Top ten reasons to never turn down one-game playoff tickets in exchange for going to mandatory night class: #1. Your teacher gets sick and cancel at 1030 AM, a mere 30 minutes too late to quickly jump on the ticketmaster website and grab a pair for a reasonable price.
How much you wanna bet your teacher is faking it and headin to the South Side tonight?
I pretty much agree with everything you guys are saying here, but for hard hitting Cubs/Dodger analysis by position, head on over to toptenchicagosports.com

Ok false alarm, I guess she wasn't sick nor did she say that in her email but I guess she cancelled her class this morning but emailed it to our class, then 15 minutes later she emailed us saying we DO have class.... Now should I email her telling her I cant go because I bought tickets to the game in the time it took her to write us an email??? I think we all know the answer to that.
Have a great live blog, I'm going to a bar in Aurora. Better not suck.
7-11's deal to purchase space and time only applies to regular season home games; this being outside the first 162, MLB gets to set the time. So at the very least we're saved the embarrassment of "Tonight's starting time is brought to you by 7-11." Go Sox.

I think it's just lame when Miami Heat fans do anything.
This blackout has two incredible elements
1) I first heard about it from Hawk.. so I kind of picture him -- since he doesn't have to call the game -- leading the cheers, like the senior head of a student section. I know it sounds crazy, but ask yourself: am I really that far off?
2) I love Chicago's 'cutting edge' blackout idea... which is occurring only THREE days after one of the most notoriously failed blackouts in the history of sports. I mean, after the Georiga blackout caused those mother f'ng funeral comments and led to an eventual upset, how could we POSSIBLY tempt fate? Maybe it's a reverse jinx or something. Let's just say this: if it was the Braves, I doubt they'd be pulling a move like that. Urban Illinois is so out of touch with college football sometimes.
