Morning Reading
- Sox column at Beachwood
- Pittsburgh Steelers team fantasy preview

I was completely cut off from the world over the weekend, and let me tell you, it was glorious. Apparently it’s possible to have fun without a laptop. Who knew? A few lingering sports thoughts…
- I am pumped pumped pumped to watch my first White Sox game of the Griffey Era. I missed everything this weekend, and today I’m meeting up with some peeps at a minor league game, so I’ll miss the first game of the pivotal Detroit series tonight. Friends, if you’re reading, we should go to a Sox game ASAP. I was thinking Wednesday. Seriously, Griffey…White Sox. I still can’t believe it. I also think it’s pretty funny that Stompy mentioned how he used trade for Griff in v-games. I did that all the time, but would usually turn off fair trades and send the Mariners someone like Craig Grebeck.
- This Chris Williams business is making me sick. I try not to get worked up over training camp happenings like this, but I’ve felt the Bears are going to be horrible this season for a long time. The only way they aren’t is if the entire D stays healthy, Hester takes a big step forward as a receiver, and the offensive line regains competence. If any of those things go wrong, the Bears are fucked. I really believe that. And with Williams still missing super valuable training camp reps, we may be inching closer to watching John St. Clair trying to protect Orton’s blindside Week 1 against Dwight Freeney. Yuck.
- The Ben Gordon contract situation is going to get ugly. More on this later.
- Stompy touched on the Redeem Team (which I actually think is a totally rad name) yesterday, but I want to reiterate that basketball is the only thing I care about in the Olympics. I find this crew we're throwing out there to be eminently likable and would lovee to see nothing more than blowout after blowout. Overall, the Olympics doesn’t really do it for me, but basketball is the exception.
- Quick Palooza review that I’m sure no one cares about but whatever: I spent a fortune this weekend but it was totally worth it. Really, it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I grew up loving Rage Against the Machine and they were un-fucking-believable live. Tom Morello shreds so hard it’s not even funny, and Zack was jumping around all over the place just as I’m sure he did in like 94. When the band shared a hug at the end of the set, it felt like you witnessed something more powerful than a rock concert. With that said…I think Radiohead may have been better. I’ve only gotten into them the last few months, and the only cds I have are OK Computer and In Rainbows. I still probably knew at least half their set, and was blown away how good they sounded live. Both Radiohead and Rage were two of the best concerts I’ve ever seen live.
Best Non-Headliner: Okkervil River, Biggest Disappointment: The Weakerthans not showing up, Band I Never Listened to Before that Rocked: Broken Social Scene, Band that was Clearly on the Most Hardcore Drugs: Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Sweetest Rappers Ever: Cool Kids, Band I Missed But All My Friends Raved About: CSS, Best Dance Party: Girl Talk

theres no sense in even getting remotely excited for the bears this season. this teams gonna suck dick until they get a real starter. dont even think about them contending for the nfc until that happens. hopefully tampa gets favre and trades garcia here
Word around camp is Chris Williams is already a bust. I guess people say you can tell right away, and judging by Angelo's track record I'd put a lot of money down on it.
Can't go to the Sox game on Wednesday, I have a final Thursday morning. Let's go Monday.
And are you still down for MSU this weekend?

Sox stepped up big yesterday - they're back in first.
