Damn shame the White Sox lost tonight, because this could have been one of the greatest days of all-time.
I'm really not one of those people who hates on mainstream media. Seriously, I don't mind Stu Scott, Salisbury, shit, even Joe Morgan. I mean, there are some I don't like (Skip Bayless comes to mind), but Mariotti is the only person whose articles I won't read simply because I don't want to give the column pageviews. Oh, and Gregg Easterbrook.
But look at that picture above. The irony! Say what you want about Mariotti -- and you should... because he sucks -- but this is a guy who by all means was equipped to outlast a borderline insane man in a fickle occupation (Ozzie) and a flat-out old man (Ken Harrelson). Yet somehow, the Hawk and Guillen went the distance. Mariotti is the like a roach who could have survived an atomic bomb but instead squished himself with his own ego.
But it finally happened. Mariotti is gone. I felt like he was strong as ever; I was almost disappointed to see it end on such a fizzle. I was hoping he'd fly the coop and do something too idiotic for the Times to keep him on. I don't like the idea of him leaving with dignity -- well, as much as he could possibly have; it seems like the whole blogosphere is trashing the hell out of him.
I recommend everybody go to Jay the Joke... well, because, this could be the last time you need to.
Oh, and just because I had to:
Too bad more people didn't get to vote. It could have been worse. Deadspin Media Approval worse.Let's end with bullet points...
- Minority opinion on TUP supports Jason Whitlock's hiring.
- Though it really doesn't matter who takes his place.
- He. Gone.

De Luca, holy shit. This is just the most scathing thing ever:

"I'm not going to say I will get the last laugh because I will get fired from this job."
This just might be the best Ozzie quote of all-time.
I like to imagine that Ricky bitched him out and he had to resign because he couldn't show his face around the office after getting punked like that.
How it went down, in case anyone cares:

Probably the best line of the DeLuca article the end: Today, it's a little better.
That is one of those shitty one sentence Marrioti conclusions.
I hope the Times goes for a witty "blogger"-type who is actually funny. What is killing the paper industry is that they are not like blogs, as in the content is dull. Sports is fun and funny...fucking catch up. Fire those lame, old sports writers, hire young shiteating writers who aren't afraid to make fun of someone in a irreverent way. For. Fuck's. Sake.

Ughhhhh, I hate Easterbrook. Maybe I'd read one of his columns if they weren't 19,000 words and filled with jokes that aren't funny.
Also, those screen shots are sweet. I'm jealous. How do you do that?
