While some people felt that the coaching staff wanted Rex to win the job all along, I disagreed. Even two years ago when the Bears went to the Super Bowl, you could tell Lovie and Turner were starting to sour on Rex. Grossman may have even lost his job to Brian Griese that season if Hester didn’t return two(?) kicks against the Rams in St. Louis.

With Grossman continuing to make one boneheaded mistake after another, the Bears had no choice but to turn to Orton, who now probably becomes about the 30th best starting quarterback in the NFL. Though I’ve defended Rex to the death in the past, his time is over. I genuinely like Orton and would love to see him have success this season, but it almost certainly won’t happen. The Bears’ offensive line and receivers are just too bad. It’s almost funny how much faith everyone has in rookie runner Matt Forte as well, seeing as he’s never played an NFL down, and he’s stringed together two consecutive less than stellar preseason games.

Want to hear something even more depressing? As a bit of a draft nerd, I can say fairly confidently that this incoming class sucks. It might be ok if Tebow, who I think will make a great pro QB, and Stafford tear it up this year as juniors, but there just aren’t a lot of big name offensive players (I feel as if I'm going to get torn apart for that last statement, but I think guys like Maclin and Harvin and maybe even Crabtree are much better college players than pros).

My plan to save the Bears future? Draft Tebow (though he may not even come out….God, why am I talking about this now?), move Hester to tail back, Kellen Davis to fullback and install the triple option. All of the Bears passing records are held by a guy who throw his first pass in 1939.…drastic times call for drastic measures.
