I think one of the things everyone loves about Carlos Quentin is his batting stance. He just looks like he’s ready to unload on the ball every time he steps up to the plate, and that’s been the case more often then not this year, since he’s probably the AL MVP. But because he stands in such a crouch so close to the plate, Quentin gets beamed by a ton of pitches.
More than anyone in baseball, in fact, and right now, he’s on a historic tear. Via the
AP story of last night’s 9-0 White Sox victory:
Quentin has been hit by a pitch in five straight games— the first player since 1920 with that long a streak, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
But for Quentin, only getting hit once per game is nothing. Get a load of
this tidbit, from his college days at Stanford:
Set an NCAA single-game record when he was hit by a pitch five times at Florida State (2/9/02).
Q!’s plate patience and subsequent high OBP is what makes him the best hitter the Sox have had since The Big Hurt, and is part of the reason why I think he’s one of baseball’s best. Despite my ode to him on
Beachwood this week, I think everyone can agree that Carlos Quentin can never get too much attention.
Seems a bit early to crown him "the best hitter the Sox have had since The Big Hurt" after 3/4 of one season. He has to do it for like three years. Besides Thome OBP in Chi is WAY higher than Q's. Plus he has had OPS+ higher than Q's is right now twice in Chi. Dye has had it once and is nearly as high as Q's now. All I am saying is that Q has played in 114 games as a Sox. Lets bring this debate up again after a sample size worth judging.
Did you hear that the Olympics voted out both baseball and softball. One of the reasons they decided to vote out softball is because it is dominated by the Americans. This is bullshit......I guess you have to take out hockey because the Canadians, long-distance running because of the Kenyans, oh and all the events Phelps is in since nobody can touch him. This is just ridiculous in my opinion.
Yeah that's kind of goofy.
oh yeah, this too:
