Well, if we're going to let Ken Griffey's first game be emblematic of his entire Chicago White Sox career, I'd be totally down with that. Number 17 -- that sounds kind of awkward already -- had a pretty good debut for the Sox in the 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

The line: 2/3, 2 Hits, 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 BB

Griffey's only out came on a ball he crushed into the outfield but came down a few feet short of the wall. So, not too shabby. He was also the Comcast player of the game, for what it's worth (pretty much nothing). Bill Melton pointed out during the post-game that both of Griffey's RBIs came with two outs, and if you've followed the 2008 White Sox at all, you'd know that's something the team definitely needs.

Truth be told, I'm kind of already used to seeing him in a Sox uni; not fully, but just about. Back in the days of Ken Griffey Baseball (the first one) on Nintendo 64, I always traded Albert Belle to put him on the Sox. And I know he's in the twilight years of his career and the impact of his trade wasn't exactly going to shatter the baseball universe, but as I said -- and still totally stand by -- when I heard about the trade: it's Griffey, man. The guy has this undeniable mystique that anyone who watched him in the nineties will totally agree with. I'm not ready to miss any of his at-bats quite yet.

Whatever, I say. Let's get excited. After that horrible finale against Minnesota last night, the Sox and their fans need all the good times they can get before the rest of this pennant race shakes down.

To conclude: Griffey rules. And fuck the Metrodome.

I thought #17 was funny, because it reminds me of a # he'd get in a video game after you traded for him.
