Why, exactly, is Brett Farve going to New York to play for the Jets? Farve didn’t want to go there from the beginning, and seemed to panic when the Packers didn’t make him their starter or let him go to Minnesota. So maybe Farve had no other option. This was the only story in sports the last two weeks, it would have been pretty odd if it all ended with him calling it quits again.

But I still don’t see what New York has to offer. The Jets aren’t just a bad team, they’re one of the worst. For as much as I loved him on the Bears, Thomas Jones isn’t a top 20 running back anymore. The receivers? You’d be hard pressed to name one after Laveranues Coles (Brad Smith, yeah that Brad Smith, is actually third on their receiver depth chart). The offensive line is really, really good, especially with Big Al Faneca joining Holley Nick Mangold and D-Brick this season. But still, that offense sucks. Farve is going to have to press to make big plays, and we all know what happens next.

It’s no secret that I hate Brett Farve, so maybe my feeling that he’s going to get fucking pulverized this season is a little biased. But I really don’t see any other scenario very likely.

- Gio Gonzalez made his major league debut last night, and it was a fairly successful one. Gonzalez, the top prize the Sox gave up this offseason to acquire Nick Swisher, went six innings for the A’s, giving up four hits, four earned runs, and two walks, while striking out four against the Blue Jays. I love Swisher, though they sure did give up a load to get him, but Gio’s development will be one for the Sox fans to keep an eye on.

- Bears preseason opener tonight! How exciting. The Bears are my favorite sports team, but my usual excitement is tempered this year by the fact that they’ll be awful. Still, it’ll be fun to listen to Ditka in the booth (why can’t we get team announcers in the NFL like every other sports?), and it’ll be cool to watch guys like Earl Bennett, Mike Haas, Corey Graham, Dan Bazuin, and Kevin Payne.

Ricky, you seem like as nice enough fella, but your claim that the Jets are one of the worst teams in the league is off. Yeah, they finished 4-12 last year, but they aren't bereft of talent.

And Jerricho Cotchery had over 1,000 receiving on a bad offensive team last season.

I'm not a big Favre fan either, but I don't see him getting pulverized with the Jets.

Maybe, I guess we'll have to see. I think Mangini is a good coach, and the defense did make a lot of good additions this offseason.

There's no reason to be upset that the Sox traded Gio Gonzalez. If history repeats itself he'll be back in a Sox uni by next year.

I hope the Pats legitimately make Brett Favre cry. Like that really cold game against the Bears at Soldier Field last year where Favre wrapped himself up in that huge coat and refused to take the field on a close fourth down play because he was too cold -- only to say this off-season that he wanted to play for a cold weather team. Man, I hate him.

We've traded Gio Gonzalez enough times where I have faith that the organization sees that he is not destined for big things.
