Maybe it’s because I’m positive the Bears are going to suck and it’s inevitable that Derrick Rose won’t start becoming, well, Derrick Rose, until midway through year two, but for the first time in my life, I am fairly pumped up about the Chicago Blackhawks. Also exciting: that last sentence had five commas.
Getting every game on either Comcast or WGN legitimizes the franchise so much in my eyes, and signing a couple of marquee free agents doesn’t hurt either. I’ve never heard of Brian Campbell before the Hawks signed him, but just reading this got me excited.
Take away the three nights in which the Blackhawks won their Stanley Cups (1934, 1938 and 1961), and Tuesday's wheeling and dealing represents the biggest day in the history of a franchise that played its first game in 1926.
Yowzers. Now this outdoor game seals the deal: the Hawks are going to be sweet to watch this year. I’m sure tix for that game will be impossible to come by, but- assuming my friends want to go with me (Mike, Pete, Beau: I’m looking at you)- I think I’d pretty much shell out whatever to attend.
This is sort of sacrilegious to say on this site, but having this game at Wrigley instead of, say, Solider Field, I think makes it a lot more awesome. If you take away the Cubs, Wrigley actually isn’t so bad, and since the Cubs don’t play hockey, I’m all for this venue. I think Patrick Kane put it perfectly:
"If it happens, it would be awesome," Hawks winger Patrick Kane said last month. "You want to talk about history, you have the Hawks and Wings—two Original Six teams at Wrigley Field—it probably doesn't get any more historic than that."
We all agree this is pretty much the coolest thing ever, right?

Also, while we're here: I know it's really only been one day, but post-Leitch Deadspin is pretty stellar. AJ has always been great, and I think Clay Travis is going to rock as well, even though I don't care for SEC football.
I'm also now fully functional after a three day 21st birthday bender that could only be described as "retarded". I'll probably be all over The Fantasy Factor today, and I need a good list idea for Top Ten, which I'll be handling tomorrow, so give me something if you have a good one. Z-Mart has Top Ten today (I think) so go check that out too.

PS now that you are of age, I will be needing you to party with me very soon...Also I have to use a fake name on TTCS or I will get fired from my job because they know about it, thus being the reason I had to post with ur name...oh, and the hawks thing is the best thing hockey has done since NHL '94 for SEGA.
