I was at a wedding over the weekend, so I've been out of the sports loop for a couple days, so after watching my two favorite tennis players lose in the finals at Wimbledon on back-to-back days, fighting off David Tyree/Appalachian State flashbacks, and calmly deciding that August 2007-July 2008 was bar-none thee worst sports year of my life, I pulled up the AL All-Star lineup. Only to find out... that Jermaine Dye didn't make it!

Not a starter. Not a reserve. Nothing. Now, I'm really not the kind of person to get indignant about an exclusion in an exhibition, but it's JD, man. He's not going to fight this battle, so we'll have to do it for him.

Tom Fornelli, White Sox fan and FanHizzle blogger, had this to say:
Grievance: Jermaine Dye not making the team. I swear in recent weeks I've become Jermaine Dye's publicist telling anybody who will listen that he is far and away the most undervalued outfielder in the game today. Still, I thought enough people knew about him to at least get him on to the All Star team. JD is hitting .308 and OPSing (not sure that's a word, but screw it, I'm angry) at .919 with 19 homers and 52 RBI. His only crime is that he plays in the American League where outfielders are raking this season, and that people still think the Yankees are good.
Pretty well put.

But wait! There's still time:
jdpoll.JPG...though I can't shake the feeling that Giambi, his resurgence mustache, the massive NY push, and the comedic vote of the common blogger will get him into the game. Never know, though. The Sox fans did get Pods in back in '05, and the "Punch A.J." campaign of '06 also succeeded, so who really knows.

Dye is easily my favorite baseball player of all-time, so it killed me to see him get snubbed like this. The fact that he's not starting didn't bother me at all -- after all, the game is about who the fans want to see, so whatever -- but to not even be named? I mean, damn. I've always thought that 10, 15 years from now, I'll be the guy reminding people he was the one who won World Series MVP in 2005. I feel like over half of Sox fans have already forgotten. I suppose that's the price you pay for being a low-key guy.

Welp, time to rock the vote.

Extra Crap
  • Other Notable Sox Snubs: Gavin Floyd, John Danks
  • Notable Sox Inclusions: Joe Crede, Carlos Quentin... uh, that's it
  • Sabathia traded to the Brewers for pro-spex. Sox fans are happy to have him out of the division, Cub fans are disappointed on losing the sweepstakes. TUP fans are just happy we sent him off right.
  • Happy birthday, Rickhouse

I own only one of those trendy jersey/t-shirt concoctions and it has Dye's name on the back. I wouldn't say he's my fav of all-time (Big Hurt!!!), but he's certainly been my favorite White Sock since he arrived. Usually I don't care about something stupid like the All-Star Game, but I really want JD to make it.

Also, Varitek? Did that happen, or is that a joke?

Stompy,

Let's be honest you obviously haven't been watching sports all year if you didn't mention the AJ Pierzynski / Jason Varitek snub in the entire article.

Varitek was included and he's hitting .218 with 7 home runs, 27 RBI and an OBP of .300!

AJ has a much higher batting average, OBP, and slugging percentage and slightly more RBI all the while catching a pitching staff with the lowest Team ERA in baseball now THAT is a snub.

Ricky-Totally unrelated, but was your latest beachwood article (if you can call it that) a tryout for FJM?
