Today is going to be a good day

If you’ve been reading this site the last couple days, you know that I was a little nervous about this pick. Rose just seems like such an obvious, easy selection, that I wondered why the Bulls played their cards so close to the vest. Now the draft is tonight, and still nothing has changed (at least not as I type this): John Paxson hasn’t said a word yet. But I’m not nervous anymore. Rose is going to be the pick, just as everyone has been speculating for weeks. How could he not be?

I’ve praised Michael Beasley a lot on this site, but if his name is called first (it won’t be), I’d be sufficiently devastated. While I bash Pax constantly, not even he can screw this one up. Rose is going to be a Bull, and no one should be too euphoric when it officially goes down. After all, this is easy. Rose has really been the only pick all along.

Never mind his sub par jumper, at this point the only way Rose doesn’t become everything we envision him turning into is if something tragic happens. It’s worth pointing out that Rose lives in the worst neighborhood in Chicago, Englewood, where bullets fly like the Wild West. So here’s hoping the Bulls pick Derrick Rose, and nobody shoots him. That’d really make me happy.

We have a long time to argue about the subsequent moves that have to follow this one, but none are happening tonight (I doubt it’ll be easy to peddle off Kirk). Deng and Gordon can’t even be traded until July 1, so there is no need to worry about the rest of the team until later. Just be happy that Derrick Rose, arguably the top prep basketball player Chicago has ever produced, is coming home. We’ll worry about everything else later.
