Orlando Cabrera might be a moron

I didn’t like the Orland Cabrera-Jon Garland swap in the first place. If the Sox were going to try to win this season when everyone (including me, oops) thought they should be rebuilding, then why trade arguably your best starting pitcher? In baseball, you win with pitching. Garland was nothing but reliable for the Sox over the last three years, and no one knew how Gavin Floyd, John Danks, and Jose Contreras would do this year. I guess it’s a testament to the confidence that Ozzie and Kenny had in the those guys, considering all of them are doing great through the first two months. And, sure, there’s value in bringing in a gold glove caliber shortstop. And there’s value in getting rid of Juan Uribe (not so fast). But to trade a pseudo-homegrown talent like Garland for that seemed like a little bit of a stretch.

Now, even though the Sox are winning (huge win today to take the series from Cleveland), Cabrera is doing more harm than good. Joe Cowley reported that twice this season, Cabrera called the scorekeeper to argue with errors that were charged to him. Cowley thinks it makes OC, a free agent after this year look selfish, and it’s hard to disagree. I’m not sure this is that big of a deal, but baseball players aren’t supposed to do that type of stuff. It’s like one of the unwritten rules.

After Ozzie and Kenny took care of the matter, OC bashed Ozzie for not protecting him, whatever that means. Maybe he could have picked a better time to do it, like, you know, when he’s hitting better than .242/.302/.322. Either way, Cabrera joined Brian Urlacher in the list of Chicago athletes who aren’t talking to the local media.

what a douche bag, i'd expect that kind of stat mongering from an NBA player, but not a baseball player. i thought he was supposed to be a clubhouse leader.

So he's an idiot but apparently it worked because as of today he only has one error listed against him...nice work Cabrera! That equals a .996 fielding percentage and he is ranked 3rd in the MLB for range...u know who is third to last Derek "I am overrated" Jeter...stop complaining and enjoy an actual shortstop...God knows you won't have one next year.
