Sun-Times (Mariotti): Rose
(Paxson) must make a public-relations move, a ticket-selling move. He must make a pick for the fans, who have suffered 511 losses in 810 games since the dynasty dissolved and watched Paxson's lead coaching candidate, Mike D'Antoni, sign with the New York Knicks because chairman Jerry Reinsdorf dawdled and didn't make an offer in time. The Bulls need to re-market themselves in a town that has lost interest. They need to understand they've been granted a civic gift, much as Cleveland was five years ago when the Cavaliers won the lottery and access to native son LeBron James. Suddenly, just as the revitalized Blackhawks were beginning to conquer the winter with kids Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, the Bulls have their own form of new life.
Tribune (): Rose
That might not be what you look for in a point guard, but it illustrated a few of the things the Memphis star and Chicago kid has going for him: Incredible power and high entertainment value.
If the Bulls don't take this kid, they are absolutely out of their organizational minds.
Blog-a-Bull: Rose
It's early, but so far it isn't a situation where I knee-jerkedly say "take Rose" (which I did), and then as time goes on I start to think more and more about Beasley. It's pretty much still all in favor of selecting Derrick Rose.
He just seems the exact type of player, a real upgrade, that can be immediately plugged in without any messing with the rest of the roster. If anything he'll improve it, as while Rose won't make anyone better, he'll can get them open.
TYI: Rose
YES !!!!!!
If we do not pick Derrick Rose, all 7 TYI contributors, plus whoever we can recruit from Blogabull will riot; the Days of Rage will pale in comparison.

So what would I do if I was the GM???? I'm not sure. Awesome answer, right? Paxson will have to use this Summer to weigh his options to see what kind of trades he can make. Option 1 would be to get Rose but he needs to get rid of Hinrich to make that happen. Option 2 would be to take Beasley and pray to God that he doesn't turn into a jerkoff. This isn't going to turn out well, is it?

#23 is taken but I’m pretty sure we can work something out.
Foul Balls: Undecided
It's true, though, and now the question is who do the Bulls draft: Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley? My initial reaction is that I'd rather have Derrick Rose, but both players fill a need for the Bulls. So no matter who the Bulls take, I'll be happy with the pick. So much like John Paxson right now, I don't know what I would do with it.
National
SI’s Ian Thompson: Beasley
The obvious thought is to pick Chicago native Derrick Rose. But Beasley is the most talented player in the draft, and the one thing the Bulls lack is an elite talent. For a franchise with championship aspirations, the early guess is that the Bulls risk passing up the sure thing in Rose to go for potentially the greatest thing in Beasley.
ESPN’s Chad Ford: Beasley
This will be a very difficult choice for the Bulls. On the one hand, Chicago has needed a low-post scorer for a long time, and Beasley fits the bill. He's also a top-notch rebounder, which would fulfill another need for the Bulls. However, Rose, a Chicago native, would be a major upgrade over Kirk Hinrich. His strength and athleticism could really ignite the Bulls' offense. For the moment, we're putting Beasley here because he's the best fit.
The Big Lead: Beasley
Instant starter, Bulls could go rise as high as Top 4 in the East.
Fanhouse’s Tom Ziller: Beasley
The Bulls pose one of the biggest Beasley-or-Rose quandaries among all lottery teams. One minute, Beasley seems like a no-brainer for a team lacking low-post scoring. But Kirk Hinrich was awful last season, Tyrus Thomas is still considered to be a nice prospect, and Rose is insanely talented. Of course, size always wins. John Paxson is nothing if not by-the-book.

Forget all that "Derrick Rose is from Chicago" stuff. The Bulls have a point guard. Captain Kirk Hinrich has proven that, when surrounded by talent and a system that allows him to do what he does well (defense, three point shooting when open) he can lead the Bulls to 50 wins. Why throw him away, for a talented, yet unproven, point guard? Not when the most talented player in the draft is Beasley. Beasley also happens to be what the Bulls have been looking for years now: a low-post threat. Think the Bulls aren't the luckiest franchise in NBA history? First they get Jordan with the third pick, then they beat the odds (1.7%) yesterday to land the top pick in the draft, who just happens to fill their most crucial need.
If they pick anyone other than Beasley, not only does Paxson need to get fired right away, but you can beat on Beasley using the snub as motivation, and dropping 30 points on the Bulls everytime the Heat play them.
So here's one you can beat on: Beasley is a Bull.

This tells you how much Rose means to people in Chicago. The national guys will come around. Derrick Rose should be the pick and he will be the pick. There are lots of great scorers in the NBA. Having one doesn't make a team great. In the NBA, you win with great point guards and centers, unless a swing man is as spectacular as LeBron, Wade, or Kobe. Beasley is awesome, but he isn't at their level. Rose will be every bit as good as Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Tony Parker. He'll be one of the NBA's five best point guards by his second or third season. Rose is that good.
Picking Rose means Pax has to deal Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich, so I'm sure the selection will be a little scary for him. If the Bulls go with Beasley, he can basically be inserted straight into the lineup. But while Pax may be a wuss, he isn't stupid. Rose is going to be the pick.

If you base it on what player the Bulls need/want, it's Rose. But.....you have to take into account what players Paxson can/will trade this Summer and what he will do with the rest of the roster, especially with the coach. I'm not sure you want a rookie coach AND a rookie point guard. If they are going to take Rose then maybe Avery Johnson is the pick for coach. I don't know, there are so many things up in the air but having options is a good thing.
After reading some of Pax's comments from yesterday it sounds as if Beasley is the man right now.
really? From what I heard it sounded like Rose. He kept talking about leadership, and stuff like that. That's what you get from a point guard. Beasley is a great player- i don't want people to think that i think he's a scrub- but he's sort of numbers guy. He'll put up 25/10, but will his team's win? I'm not so sure. Like i said up top....point guards and centers. That's how you do this.
This a whole other post in itself, but i'm not sure the pick should depend on the roster and coach. They should almost start over. Who do you really want to keep? I'd like to keep Gooden, Tyrus, Deng, Thabo and that's it. Everyone else can go. Now if that's gonna happen, JP has to grow a pair. Who knows if he will.
But i wouldn't be opposed to trading anyone, Deng included. Pax has a great opportunity here. He's getting an unreal point guard. Surround him with a bigger shooting guard and a skilled center (easier said than done), and this team is solid.
The answer has to be Rose. He's not only a fantastic player but he's winner. He's won at every level. Middle School, High School, AAU, College.
This is a kid who won 2 state titles without ever scoring more than 30 points in one game because he made his teammates that much better!
Beasley is a nice player but he's just like Shawn Marion. Don't you realize that once he gets money he'll hover the perimeter and chuck up 3-pointers and not care at all about winning?
I went from 80% in favor of Rose to right around 100% in favor of Rose.
Great post.
Seriously man, that's exactly where I'm at. The point of the first post was "both these guys rock. Pax can't go wrong either way, but I want Rose." Now I'll be pissed if it's Beasley. I agree with a lot of what Phillips said above too.
You win with point guards and centers. If it were between Rose and Greg Oden, maybe that's a different story. Beasley will score tons of points, but you don't always win with those guys. Beasley is very comparable to Melo. And now the Nuggets want to ship him out. The Bulls neeeeed to take Rose.
Yeah, seriously -- what's Beasley's best case scenario? Carmelo?
If we could max out the ceilings of both guys and compare them with elite NBA players, it really does come down to drafting a Chris Paul or a Carmelo Anthony.
I mean, it's a no freaking brainer, right?
The bulls should definitely take Beasley! Beasley's 26.2 ppg owns Roses 14.9! Rose averages 4.7 assists per game only so he ud=s not a great passer. Beasley has 12.7 rpg. If you looked at Kirk Hinrichs stats in college they were much better! Kirk would do 10 times better with Beasley. The only reason Rose went to the finals was because Memphis also had Douglas Roberts! Beasley had no one! Then once we draft Beasley we should deal either gordon and our 39th pick for a center. Starting lineup = Kirk Hinrich Larry Hughes Luol Deng Michael Beasley and that center and then for the finishing touch the Bulls trade Gooden and Nocioni or Deng for Carmello Anthony!! New lineup = Kirk Hinrich Larry hughes Carmello Anthony Michael Beasley and that center. Maybe Brook Lopez some how See Beasley does open trade options.

And this is where screwing up on previous picks gets you into this kind of decision. Had the Bulls hit with Tyrus Thomas or even taken Aldridge instead, this would be a no-brainer.
Kirk Hinrich may be a solid player, but find me a current Bull that can go to the hole consistently and I'll give you a prize.
It's just got to be Rose.
