The Big Ten Network: it steals more than your money

by Ricky O'Donnell on March 13 at 3:15AM

A lot of things have been said about the Big Ten Network since it began kidnapping football and basketball games last fall. I could go into long detail, but this t-shirt pretty much says it all. So while you’re missing conference tournament games this week, remember to add a new insult to your arsenal: a Barrington man is calling the Big Ten a bunch of thieves.

A Lake County man filed a lawsuit claiming that the Big Ten Network was an idea he proposed 10 years ago.

Robert B. Cummins, an attorney for Robert W. Welsh, who was described as a businessman and resident of Lake County, filed the lawsuit alleging Welsh developed the business plan for the Big Ten Network and presented the plan to Big Ten Conference officials in early 1998 under terms of strict confideantiality.

As if making fans pay extra to watch games isn’t bad enough, stealing the idea to do so is downright disgusting. It’s too bad the public can’t sue the Big Ten Network for being such a joke.

Thanks to Olsen of Top Ten for passing the story along.

It's F ridiculous that I can't watch University of Iowa games IN Iowa City when I live 2 minutes from the b-ball stadium and 5 from the football stadium.

I can see the stadiums at Michigan State from my porch and the Breslin center is practically in my front yard, yet just like at Iowa I can't watch some of the Spartan away games

I watch the BTN at the gym religiously...it's pretty great. They've been having 'classic games' on lately. They had the Illini/IU matchup from '91 when they kid for Illinois hit a 25 footer at the buzzer to win it.

Tell me about it! This Horizon League Network (HLN) is killing me too. So much greed...

Yeah whenever I want to watch Columbia's competitive painting team and its only on our private TV network i get really pissed. Just yesterday the interpretive ballet team had a big dance-off and I had to miss out.

Yea I live seriously right in front of a grade school and I can't see any kiddie porn because of the Kiddie Porn Network!

here comes Rickhouse with his best Jay Mariotti impression haha. This guy filing the lawsuit is a clown. 10 years after you present your idea and THEN they put up the network? Right. This guy had all of his meetings in confidentiality? Right. This guy's case will get thrown out faster than my case against the Big East for when they stole my confidential ideas to have them expand with Marquette, Louisville, South Florida, Cincinnati and DePaul. Mother Fuckers

Ricky, what does it feel like being such a big sports fan and going to the school with the most gay people in the state and possibly the entire country?

That question made me laugh but i actually think that's a pretty inaccurate statement.

I know bro, I'm just messin with ya, Go Columbia Phoenix?

The Big Ten Network also stole my virginity
