--One of the most underrated aspects of the big Bulls trade: no more Chris Duhon. Just reading this headline couldn’t make me any happier. I think Blog-a-Bull summed up Duhon best in their mid-season grades: Duhon- F. I'll miss making fun of him when he's gone. To Greece.

--Via the Fanhouse: The favorites in Vegas to win the NBA title? The Lakers at 2-1. I think the Lakers have as good a chance as anyone to win a title in the next three years, but this season the West is just too loaded. No one knows how good Bynum will be when he comes back or how he’ll share the paint with Gasol. 2-1 seems like a terrible bet to me. I picked the Suns to win it all before the Shaq trade (7-1), but I’m abandoning them now. Marion was their best player, if they remained status quo I think they’re still the favorites. Shaq is just old, big, and not good. They’ll probably lose in the first or second round now. The Jazz at 15-1 and the Pistons at 15-2 seem like the best value.

--While this probably deserves its own post, I can’t bring myself to think about it long enough. Get ready for Grossman-Orton competition this summer and possibly for a couple years after that. I’ve always been a Rex supporter and I like Orton a lot too (I mean, how can you not), but it’s a little depressing that this is what the Bears are stuck with. It seems like the Bears just go in cycles with quarterbacks that always start at optimism and end with disappointment. Even worse, Archuleta is supposedly coming back next season, which just doesn’t even make sense.

--So…when is Kenny Williams going to make a decision on third base? He said in the winter that both guys won’t be on the opening day roster, and said Fields would be sent down to AAA if Crede is still around. While that seems like a huge waste of a big bat to me, the Sox might have to do it. Of course this could all be averted if Fields could slide into left field. He’d probably be awful at defense there, but with him and Crede in the lineup, the Sox have legitimate potential with six guys over 30 home runs. Hitting home runs is actually an underrated way to win baseball games. That should have been the Sox plan all along, instead we’ll either have Fields in the minors or Crede traded to the Giants. That would make the Giants my NL team with Roward, Crede, and tons of good young pitching.

--This is the part of the program that we dedicate to making fun of the Cubs. Congrats to Ryan Theriot for finally making it: he’s been the punchline of a Fire Joe Morgan post, written by a writer for The Office who also plays Mose Schrute, so you know it’s good. Oh yeah and Mark DeRosa, nice heart. Not.

--Remember when I started this website only to cover only the NFL and NBA draft? I’m sure my dad does. Anyways here’s some initial post-Combine thoughts: Matt Ryan may go number one overall, but he’s got a lot of question marks. He has some big-time backers (ESPN’s Todd McShay and NFL Network’s Mike Mayock both love him), but it has to be a problem whenever a top prospect’s best attribute is ‘intangibles’. Who does he think he is, Ryan Theriot? I saw him throw without pads on at the college all-stars skill competition thing that ESPN does and he didn’t impress me there either. He doesn’t really have a strong arm and he’s not even that accurate. Not a good combo. Also, I ranked Glen Dorsey my number one prospect in the pre-combine rankings, but now it might be Jake Long. Long was great at the Combine, tying Vern Gholston for most bench reps, while questions still linger about Dorsey’s health.

I've somehow managed to convince Jerry that I can rebuild this team for the second time in less than 5 years. I still have a job, I'm a genius. It's the tail that wags the dog.

Go Irish,
John

Come on, low blow to DeRosa. That would be like me saying that John Kruk didn't have the balls to finish out his contract with the Sox....

JC: well done with Kruk. That would be a good fantasy team name.

Bob: Keller is really good. Cobra Brigade had a nice writeup on him recently as well. The one position the Bears don't need is tight end, but he'll be good for someone.
