051130_kanerko_hmed_2p_hmedium.jpgThis one isn't very surprising:

The rumors of Paul Konerko being traded to the Los Angeles Angels evidently don't believe in dying.

The rumored package for Konerko included the usual suspects from the Angels' side, including second baseman Howie Kendrick, third baseman Chone Figgins and pitcher Ervin Santana.

As I said in the Swisher post, another trade has to happen to get Josh Fields to play every day. And while it would be more desirable to trade Joe Crede’s bad back and expiring contract, you don’t want to just give anyone away. So dealing Konerko makes sense, and the package above is pretty enticing. The Sox were rumored to be after Santana last year in a trade for Crede, and even though he struggled last season, Santana, 26, still has a lot of upside. Chone Figgins leading off would help too, allowing the Sox hit Swisher fifth or sixth and moving him from centerfield. Second baseman Howie Kendrick is probably a pipedream since the Angels wouldn’t give him up in a package for Miguel Cabrera, but maybe the Sox can pry away more bullpen help, possibly Scott Shields.

Alas, I don’t think this trade will happen, and neither will any involving Konerko. Kenny Williams cares too much about the fans’ perception, and dealing Konerko would be the antithesis of a popular move. That’s why Kenny decided to try to win this season, instead of selling off all the World Series heroes from 05’ and focus on rebuilding when the division is so stacked. Attempting to contend this season wouldn’t be the way most would have gone about doing it, but it’s the path Williams chose because of pressure from fans.

Still wondering why the Sox gave Uribe $5 mil? After months of investigating, I have learned that Uribe's nickname in the clubhouse is "Tripod". Evidentally, Kenny is giving him $1 million per two inches of man meat. That's really all Uribe's got going for him in the end. What a grinder!

I love the idea of trading slowness for speed and the possibility of having a decent player in center, another decent arm and the potential of Kendrick.

I'd even throw in Mike MacUseless and David Aardsma or Pink Floyd as a bonus!
