December 2007 ArchiveBCS picksby Ricky O'Donnell on December 31 at 1:28PM
USC -14 over Illinois I wouldn’t lay this many points to any team other then USC. It is great Illinois was able to make the Rose Bowl, but unfortunately, they are probably playing the best team in the country. It’s tough giving two touchdowns, especially when Illinois is talking like they mean business and when you consider that the Trojans have had trouble against mobile quarterbacks, but USC is just too deep on both sides of the ball. Sugar Bowl Georgia -8 over Hawaii Yeah Hawaii is defeated…good for them. They played nobody and barely beat a 2-7 Washington team in their last game. Georgia is loaded offensively, with one of the country’s five best quarterbacks in Matthew Stafford (a top-10 draft pick in 09 or 10) and with arguably the best freshman in college football with running Knowshon Moreno. I expected this line to be about as big as the Rose Bowl’s, so laying eight really isn’t that bad. Does anyone think a WAC team can really beat a proven powerhouse two straight years in a BCS game? I don’t. Orange Bowl Virginia Tech -4 over Kansas As much as I love Mangeno, and trust me, he may be my favorite newcomer of 2007, four points just isn’t enough to coax me into taking the Jayhawks. Kansas also loses points here for employing Bill Self, and VT gains them because my guy ThaFranchise likes to call himself “Frank Beamer around this ho.” Fiesta Bowl West Virginia +8 over Oklahoma Oklahoma is very good and it’s hard to justify picking the Mountaineers, especially without their head coach. But Rowdy Roddy Piper’s exit, um I mean Rich Rodriguez, just may rally the troops. The health of Pat White’s thumb is clearly the x-factor, but I just feel like West Virginia is too good not to take the points. National Championship Ohio State +4.5 over LSU Ohio State accomplishes what it should have last season. Tressell won’t let the long layoff affect the Buckeyes like last year, where everyone but Ted Ginn came out flat en route to one nasty beatdown at the hands of Chris Leak and Jarvis Moss. Keep an eye on defensive end Vernon Gholston in this game, he’s really been skyrocketing up draft boards. If he has a big game, there is talk that he could go #1 to Parcells’ Dolphins. I know everyone thinks LSU is the cat’s pajamas, but don’t forget that they lost twice while in position to play in this game. Sure it was in a combined six overtimes, but great teams wouldn’t let that happen. They’re lucky to even be here. Bulls axe Skilesby Ricky O'Donnell on December 26 at 12:29PM
Here's a post I did over at the Sun-Times yesterday. All along it seemed like John Paxson and Scott Skiles were in this together. It was evident in the way they drafted, spent free agent dollars, and distributed playing time....

Finding the next great Bearby Ricky O'Donnell on December 21 at 2:47PM
College football's bowl season kicked off last tonight when Utah took on Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. While Illinois will capture the attention of most Chicago sports fans, there should be interest in Chicago outside of the Rose Bowl. With...

For only the second time in his eight year career, Brian Urlacher won’t be going to the Pro Bowl. This has certainly been the most difficult season of Urlacher’s career. He got off to a bad start before the...

Bears storylinesby Ricky O'Donnell on December 17 at 3:09AM
A 5-8 record may diminish the importance of their final three games, but the Bears certainly still have a lot to play for. While drastic changes are unlikely, the Bears will have to make decisions on certain players that...
Parque!by Ricky O'Donnell on December 13 at 6:12PM
After years of searching for the truth, baseball finally has found it. This information has might to be hard to sallow for some, but face it people, it’s true: Jim Parque used steroids. What, you thought that 1.5 WHIP he...

How will Tebow fare in the NFL?by Ricky O'Donnell on December 10 at 3:10AM
Because of the NFL’s age limit, Tim Tebow can’t enter the NFL Draft until after next season, at the earliest. But that doesn’t mean we can’t already start thinking about what kind of pro he’ll become. Tebow is a unique...
In-season mock draft, take 2by Ricky O'Donnell on December 7 at 5:29PM
1. Miami Dolphins- Darren McFadden RB ArkansasIn my opinion, this is pretty weak class. There are only two studs, McFadden and Dorsey, and a team as poor as the Dolphins has to take one of them if they keep the...

And…..the White Sox are screwedby Ricky O'Donnell on December 5 at 3:03AM
The best division in baseball just got a whole lot better. After negotiations broke down with Anaheim, the Tigers stepped up as baseball’s only team thus far willing to deal homegrown elite prospects to acquire proven talent. Make no mistake,...
Bears lose heartbreakerby Ricky O'Donnell on December 2 at 8:41PM
At halftime, I was all prepared to write a “The Bears are back” type post. Even though they were only up 13-7, the Bears haven’t played better since the NFC Championship then they did in the first half against the...
