Quick observations on Kansas City as the Bears try to get out of the cellar in the NFC North (I can't believe I just typed that).
Team: Kansas City Chiefs
Record: 0-1
Last Game: L 20-3 at Houston
Best Blog: Arrowhead Addict (they gave me a link yesterday, so right back at ya, fellas)
- Here's what we know: the Chiefs offense is pretty similar to the Chargers...minus Rivers of course. LJ isn't as good as LT, but he's still one of the two or three best backs in the league. Same goes for Tony G, who's still remarkably productive, even as he's starting to get up there in age. The Bears focused on stopping LT last week and that's precisely what they did, holding the best player in the NFL to 25 yards on 17 carries. If they can do the same to Johnson, this should be an easy victory. Most of the Chargers offense last week came from Gates, so the Bears have to game plan around Gonzalez. He's easily their top receiving threat, so the special attention should be paid to shutting him down.
- Damon Huard isn't good. While he did have a solid completion percentage last week (66%), he threw two picks and zero touchdowns. If the Bears' front four can get pressure on him, the turnovers could come in bunches. Grabbing turnovers is what the Bears D is all about, so look for Vash-Dog and Urlacher to come way with takeaways.
- Every year KC's defense sucks, but it always looks good on paper. Could be the same again this year, but they only allowed a respectable 20 points to an underrated Texans offense. The big, new free agent acquisition this year is linebacker Donnie Edwards who is always good for 100+ tackles per season.
- Brodie Croyle's wife is smokin.
