That Guy Deserves a Stone Cold Stunner: Michael David Smithby Ricky O'Donnell on July 2, 2007 at 8:05PM
Here's some unsolicited advice for Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris: Hold out of training camp until the Bears give you a contract extension with a huge signing bonus. Well here’s some unsolicited advice for you Michael David Smith: you’re an asshole. Following their Super Bowl defeat, the Bears have suffered more offseason trouble then any Chicago team in recent memory. Thomas Jones got himself traded out of town, and the Bears got back nothing more then a swap of second round draft picks with the Jets. Lance Briggs decided he won’t play for over $7 million this year, and is on the cusp of possibly sitting out the entire season. Tank Johnson was in jail for 60 days, and on his first day out, gets pulled over for speeding while high. Yeah, not a good offseason for the beloved so far. Now, MDS is calling for Tommie Harris, the team’s second best player, to sit out until the Bears pay him? Media members call out players all the time for being selfish and putting themselves above the team; Tommie Harris isn’t doing that, and MDS wants him to? That doesn’t make sense at all. Besides, Tommie has nothing to get worried about, he’s going to get paid eventually, probably after the season, when the Bears lock him up long term. Smith goes to make other foolish statements, like this one: In Chicago, ever since the Bears cut defensive tackle Tank Johnson, there's been talk about how desperately the Bears need Harris to stay healthy this year, and how their failure to do more to bolster their defensive line this off-season makes Harris their most indispensable player. First of all, that dude who wears 54, yeah, he’s the most indespensible player. No one wants to see Leon Joe in extended duty this season. Oh, and Harris is awesome and extremely important, but he has some other help at d-tackle. The Bears pryed Anthony Adams away from San Francisco, he’ll probably start the season along side Harris this season. Adams, who is best known for formerly patrolling the Penn State d-line with ex-Bear first rounder Michael Haynes, will also be joined by Dusty Dvoracek. Dvoracek was a third round pick last year, who missed the entire season because of a knee injury. He should be a major contributer this year. So for being such a moron, Michael David Smith, this is what you get:
