11. Atlanta Hawks- F Yi Jianlian, China

Yi being available at this point is the only way the Hawks can defend not taking a point guard with one of their first two picks. The Hawks are said to be seriously considering taking him at 3, so if Yi were available with this selection it would be a no-brainer. If he’s not around, and there is a good chance he won’t be, the Hawks will have their choice between Acie Law and Javaris Crittenton. Law has the advantage of experience, he will be the first college senior taken this year coming off a great season at Texas A&M, but Crittenton has more upside and played his college ball at nearby Georgia Tech. Still, if Yi is still available, Atlanta would be foolish to select a point guard.

12. Philadelphia 76ers- F Jeff Green, Georgetown

The 6ers are apparently loving Yi right now, and might consider moving up to get him. If they don’t, Green would be a great consolation prize, as he would be an immediate upgrade over my guy Brian’s favorite player, Willie Green. Green projects as a small forward in the NBA, but proved in college that he can score with his back to the basket. He could go much earlier then this, possibly at 5 to the Celtics. He would look to eventually develop into the 6ers #2 scoring option behind Andre Igoudala. A point guard like Crittenton or Law, or a big man like Spencer Hawes are also options.

13. Charlotte Hornets- G Nick Young, USC

Like the Bucks, the Hornets are another team that could make a leap into the playoffs next season. Their big free agent signing going into the season, Peja Stojakovic, played only 13 games, but they got big contributions from Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler. They need a shooting guard, and USC’s Nick Young may be the best; if he’s available the pick is probably a no-brainer. If he’s not, and he could go as high as 8 to Charlotte, the Bobcats could go after Rodney Stuckey or Thaddeus Young.

14. Los Angeles Clippers- G Acie Law IV, Texas A&M

Going into last season, point guard seemed to be the least of the Clippers concerns. But Sam Cassell started to regress and Shaun Livingston suffered a devastating knee injury, putting his NBA future in jeopardy, so the Clips need to find a new one. Law was the best senior in the country last season, and could have won player of the year if not for Durant. Law could go as high as 11 to the Hawks; if he’s not available, Georgia Tech’s Javaris Crittenton or Spain’s Rudy Fernandez could also be an option.

15. Detroit Pistons- G Rodney Stuckey, Eastern Washington

The Pistons received this pick from the Magic in the Darko trade from 2 years ago. After blowing their chance to go to the NBA Finals, there is talk that the Pistons are considering blowing up their team. Sure, it doesn’t make much sense, but remember, this is Joe Dumars were talking about. With this pick, Detroit needs to add depth to their bench, and they seem to be infatuated with Rodney Stuckey. Stuckey is a scorer who could immediately fill the scoring void left by the departure of Carlos Delfino. A swing man like Thaddeus Young or Derrick Byars might also be an option.
