Lotto Time

Today is the day Larry Brown, Bill Simmons, and Michael Jordan have been waiting for. Tonight at 7:30, prior to Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, ESPN will televise the 2007 NBA Draft Lottery, determining which teams will get Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, and Corey Brewer. Simmons mentioned it in one of his podcasts, and I completely agree: isn’t it a little ridiculous just how important this day is? Imagine if the Bulls strike gold and get the #1 pick. Greg Oden on the Bulls? The rest of the Eastern Conference might as well take the next 15 years off; the Bulls would have another dynasty, probably starting next season. And what about the Atlanta Hawks? If they don’t get a top three pick, their selection goes to the Suns, giving arguably the most talented team in the league another stud. And I’d almost feel bad for the Celtics if they didn’t get a top 2 pick, the entire fan base has been waiting for this day since December. If they land Oden or Durant, the Celtics should make the playoffs next year and be a legit conference contender for the foreseeable future, if not, then it’s back to 1997 all over again.

Here are the odds that the 14 teams that didn’t make the playoffs have tonight. I’ll try to come up with my first mock draft (at least for the lottery) tomorrow.

The media will absolutely kill Isiah if the Knicks' pick ends up in the top-2. The NBA probably won't let that happen. The 76ers are owed something from the league - expect a top-3 finish from them.

The Celts are owed nothing - they are poorly managed team that shouldn't be rewarded for tanking.

Did you read The Mighty MJD's take on this over at the Fanhouse? Worth checking out.

Anyway, my personal choices: The Grizzlies legitly deserve the #1; the Sonics are a good pick for #2 (Durant, Allen, and Lewis if they keep him, plus Wilks and Ridnour -they would be The New Warriors); 76ers #3. Then in order - the Celtics 4, Bucks 5, Suns 6, etc...

If the Sixers are really owed something, and the lottery is fixed, Stern had better give them a top two pick.

For my money, #3 isn't that much different from #12. Yi vs. Jeff Green is a toss-up in my book.

If I had my druthers it would be:

1. Sixers
2. Bulls (How can you not root for that, unless you're a Knicks' fan)
3. Seattle

Bri-Guy throwin down the Bulls at 2. Thats what i like to see.

But come people, your both wrong, the NBA is not fixed. If it were fixed, so many people wouldn't suspect it. And yeah ive seen the video simmons had up of the 85(?) lottery when the Knicks landed Ewing, there is some evidence there, but i really dont think the lottery is rigged. And Seattle is gettin a little too much love recently, so theres no way they're top 3. Sadly i dont think my Bulls will be top 2 either, and its because of Curry's tip in the Knicks last game. that dropped the Bulls from 6-9. Here's what i think is going down.

1. Celtics
2. Milwaukee
3. Blazers

Also, if the celtics dont get 1, i see them at 3 or 4. Obvisouly no one can predict the lottery, its basically pointless even trying (BUT ITS FUN!), but thats just the way i see things.

In conclusion, the NBA lottery is not rigged. Thank You.

The first sentence in the second paragraph should say the NBA lottery is not fixed. Sorry.

The lottery better be rigged. If there is a God, it has to be rigged this year. The Celtics and Bucks made a mockery of the game, hopefully stern will do something about it with magic balls tonight!!!!!!!!! I won't give up hope until I see the results (then I'll start talking about trading all three first rounders for the #1 pick).
